I often wonder if we are finding our best athletes in some of these events?

just now a Canadian team just medaled, are you kidding me? We have football players consistently jumping over 10 feet and as far as 11 1/2 feet in the standing broad jump, and as high as 46 inches in the vertical at the NFL combine. And who knows what the highest NBA player vertical jump is? But you can't convince me we don't have some people who can get us to being more competitive than we are in hockey.

surely we can do much better that what we got now?

For real. I mean, it's really a reach when you have to go looking at soccer players, but what is Tim Howard's GAA? And the goal he has to protect is 8X bigger! If that pansy soccer player can protect a bigger net at a better rate, just imagine what Megatron could do in a hockey goal.

If the day ever comes when our best and brightest are devoting themselves to slip and slide Canada Ball instead of a real sport like football... Brother, you may as well wrap sweet Lady Liberty's head with a French flag blindfold and put a bullet through her heart.

Because the communists will have officially won.

If you love Sweeden so much why don't you just move there.

Between Sweden and Canada, I want Sweden to win the gold. Not saying I love Sweden, but they do have some smoking hot women.

I really don't have a dog in the fight but I'm pulling for Canada because I think this only helps Jamie Benn and his contribution even more to the Stars going forward.

I don't even know if i'll watch the bronze medal game. Something about finishing with a bronze feels so mediocre when you're a 'Murican.

would we have celebrated the Bronze medal in WW2???

I bet Japan didn't.

America.

Abraham Lincoln had ZERO bronze medals. That tells me all I need to know.

As he said in the Gettysburg Address: "Bronze is for suckers and punks. Save that weak shit for Italy or Portugal. These colors don't run to the 3rd step on the podium. F--- Canada forever."

The Dutch speed skating coach had a few words about our love for football.

Dutch speedskating coach Jillert Anema knows how the United States can improve on its Olympic 0-fer on the Sochi ovals -- stop playing sports like football.

"You have a lot of attention for foolish sport, like American football," Anema told CNBC on Friday. "You waste a lot of talent, athletic talent, in a sport where it's meant to kill each other, to injure each other.

"... (The U.S.) is so narrow-minded, and you waste a lot of good talent in a sport that sucks."

Big talk for a country where half its citizens thought the Nah-zee occupation was a great idea!

I guess you missed the sarcasm. We HAVE won the medal count at every Summer Games since 1996. We've never been as good in Winter Olympics, but they have added a lot of sports the last 20 or so years that allow us to be competitive in those as well. Truthfully, sports like half pipe don't do much for me personally, but if they're included, we may as well win them.

No, didn't miss it. I just love looking at the absurdity that was the summer 'murka games back in '84. I was young enough that I thought that's just how the Olympics always go -- on home field, USA crushing everybody at everything. It was a perfect setting during the middle of the Reagan years. Rocky IV came out shortly after. Most patriotic year ever.

I think the 1980 Games were probably even more tilted towards the USSR, no? My folks were not fans of Carter by any stretch (back when I was young they were big Republicans, not anymore but I digress) but the thing that they STILL complain the most about his time in office was the Moscow boycott. Maybe it was because my dad was a very good runner (he ran track and cross country at NT, and even won a small marathon in Muenster Texas back in the day) so he could relate, but he feels that was the dumbest thing ever, and has never forgiven It.

I just have the vaguest of memories about the Los Angeles games. I was all of six. I wish they were here while I lived here! They actually said when they submitted their 2016 bid that we could hold the Olympics without building more than a couple of new venues (just refurbish some) and do them for pretty cheap. I think that might have actually worked against us.

Back on to USA Hockey. Blown out today by the Fins. Some embarassing penalties in the third that were just bad. I'm selfish but I hope Selanne doesn't retire. He is such a great player and can still skate with the rookies in the NHL. I was actually hoping he got the hat trick since this will probably be his last international competition.

AS for Team USA, is it just me or was the loss to Canada so defalting it carried over to the loss to Finland? In 3 days the US went from "seeing the gold medal in sight" to "watching the medal ceremony from the growd."

I'm sure it played on them. Once Finland got to a 3-0 lead, The team got down and let their emotions get the best of them and they started taking really stupid penalties, resulting in Finland getting power pay goals.

Side note, when you have the LA Kings Dustin Brown serving as an alternate captain, and you barely play a "team Leader" late in the game before it gets out of hand, you have issues. Personally, I ca't stand Brown, and think he is a joke. He is a clown. He will take a cheap shot on a player, and then falls like a ton of bricks when someone touches him and cries foul. But, when you barely play a team leader when you need them the most, that's an issue.
