But regular students aren't being monitored day in and day out. They aren't being tutored up for free to maintain eligible grades.

There are literally hundreds of free tutors on campus for any student.

They aren't being basically baby sat for 4 years.

They are, I know.

Regular students are thrown into the fire with little to no university guidance.

You either don't know the resources available to you or you are in the worst program in the entire University.

And most importantly most of them are paying their own way.

About 90% of students are on aid. The school gives out hundreds of millions. If you are one of those getting grants, congrats, my tax dollars at work.

The athletes get their tuition paid for, and not by random tax money, but by MGC donations. Some of my dollars at work again.

College age people make terrible decisions, and for the most part they should be taught what to do correctly and given another chance. I believe that for student athletes and normal students alike.

Student athletes and normal students at UNT both are held under the code of conduct they willingly sign on for.

As far as aid goes..10% is hardly aid. A student loan is hardly an aid. These guys and girls for that matter get to eat, sleep, and attend college for free. Accountability needs to happen. And I annoy referring to just UNT here. Our athletes for the most part are well behaved. I am talking NCAA country wide.

You are missing the point. 0 tolerance would stop the BS. They call themselves men. Some on here even get upset when we don't refer to them as men. Treat them like men.

Men get second chances. Especially men in college. I really don't understand why you want to be harder on one minority population? Every kid in college thinks they are a grown ass man/woman, but we all look back at ourselves and cringe. Why treat athletes in a tougher manner?

Tell me the truth, did DT steal your girlfriend? ;)

Ben,

A piece of advice...a lot of GMG is older guys who are set in their ways and quite stubborn. It is just the way that it is. Gotta learn to accept it, and move on, let them have the last word. Hard to do, but if you want to coexist here, that's the way it is--there's not enough young alumni and students to balance it out.

No. I'm 26 years young and married. Second chance BS makes me cringe inside. I didn't act like barbaric when I was 20. I expect an athlete to be thrown to the wolves when he whips his d*ick out at a girl sitting at a receptionist. Or when a college athlete gets caught video taping himself getting a BJ from a 14 yr old girl. If your cool with shit like that then preach on. But I won't be a part of that choir.

yeah, you may be right. Actually you are right. But when ignorance eyes me down I have a hard time walking away.

I'm not that much older than you. I'm even married. I own many leather bound books.

You never made a single mistake at a younger age? Or like most people do you rationalize your own mistakes as not being barbaric?

Nice strawman argument. However, if we are going to stick to facts, I never ok'ed any of that. I expect student athletes to have to face the same consequences as non athletes. If someone commits sexual assault or statutory rape or any other serious offense I expect them to pay the penalty. I don't care if they are a super athlete or some guy getting his computer science degree like I did.

The only one arguing for favorable treatment is you. I admit, you have a unique spin on it, most pro favorable treatment arguments on a CFB fan board would ask for the athletes to get the favor, but either way its wrong.

But I won't be a part of that choir.

So cool, so manly, please, lead us to our ubermensch future.

Haha. I don't take any of this stuff too serious. It's a way to just hear the fan bases opinion. I read and give my opinion. If people like it then cool, if they don't agree with my opinion that's cool too. But I don't lose sleep over anything on here.

I don't really either, but I like to try and coexist, to give my opinion. GMG is a really excellent way of bonding with the fanbase & a good tool. But it is what it is. Haha.

see what I mean. I got in a little trouble young, but nothing like what I read about weekly happening around the nation. Not even close.

You and meangreener are going to be BFFs, I can tell.

So, just for the record, you believe holding a minority population to a stricter code of conduct... for no reason that you have been able to articulate... is the enlightened viewpoint?

Rock on.

Still working with the strawman. Not a single person in this thread has ok'ed the serious crimes you are referring to.

In fact, what we are SPECIFICALLY talking about in this thread is MJ:

According to DaMN.

For marijuana.

And the only argument is that they should be treated like normal students, which I can guarantee you is not zero tolerance. When you saw your argument getting attacked, you threw in rape, and sexual assault and the Rwandan Genocide, BUT NO ONE HERE EVER DEFENDED THAT.

Can't ever turn down brisket, tbh.

I start with a secret rub I grind myself, then smoke it at very low heat. Time will depend on weight, but ~16 hours is normal.

My caveat is that BBQ sauce is for people who can't actually smoke meat, no BBQ sauce will be on hand, and if you bring your own we will probably have to duel.

I never referenced what I am saying about weed or North Texas. I have time and time again referenced it to criminal mischief in general. If we want to watch sports spiral out of control, which is the direction it is going, then turn a blind eye to it. Steve Spurrier on J. Clowney's speeding tickets of which both were well above 110mph, "he needs to go to driving school, hopefully they'll send him there...after the bowl game." In 2 weeks, 2 citations for the same thing. Nothing happens to these guys is my point. There is little to no accountability.
