These are kids. Zero tolerance is too harsh. There are lines that can be crossed but kids are going to make bad decisions. Hell, adults make bad decisions every day. I'm glad I'm past the point in my life is so black and white. There has to be consequences but the death penalty for failing a drug test is too harsh. Just my opinion. There is a reason 20 somethings don't rule the world.

I'm not talking about pot. I'm referring to criminal mischief in general. One of our own players 2013 offseason gets caught stealing at the mall this past season still plays. A RB at LSU caught (on camera) sucker punching a guy out cold and still plays (won't even get into the BJ video from a 14 yr old girl). A guy from Nebraska flops his pecker on a desk at a student living hall on campus at a girl sitting at the reception desk. These examples are just a small sample. There is a trend among CFB athletes going on, and the trend is very negative. But hey, let's turn a blind eye to it.

I'm a "dog person" and felt this way, too. We as a society punished him. He did everything we asked. I thought a 2nd chance was warranted. It's far from a perfect system but it's what we have. Sometimes it does seem there is a different set of rules for the wealthy and privileged, but in Michael's case, he was convicted and served his time.

There are probably a lot of people working in the food industry with prior felony convictions.

Talent will eventually even out if this was throughout the game. Tyrann Mathieu said that he failed 20 drug tests of which only 6 were publicly reported. I mean that with a 0 tolerance policy (weed or other) teams will be forced to get rid of whoever, whenever. D1 P5 conferences tend to recruit high level players that get their head inflated to the point where they are untouchable. So in hand they do whatever they want, that a big reason these issues are dominantly a P5 issue. So these "untouchable" players will start getting kicked off teams bc they don't know how to behave. It could significantly close the gap between P5 and G5 or it would significantly clean the game up off the field. One or the other would happen. The former would start to happen, then the ladder would start to take place bc those "untouchable" players know they would HAVE to walk a straight line while playing college ball to get to the NFL.

Why would you stop at the football team. Have the entire campus use the same rules. Do you know how awesome parking would be if we only had 8000 students?

Throughout all of athletics. Regular students aren't held to the same standard. If regular students are paying their own way with loans or mommy & daddy why should a university be able to hold them accountable?

They can hold them accountable now. They can hold them accountable because they agree to a code of conduct by enrolling. If they don't like the code of conduct they can either work to get it changed or go to another school.

Ok, in real life, basic students aren't held to the same standard. In a perfect world sure they should be. But regular students aren't being monitored day in and day out. They aren't being tutored up for free to maintain eligible grades. They aren't being basically baby sat for 4 years. Regular students are thrown into the fire with little to no university guidance. And most importantly most of them are paying their own way. So if a regular student gets in criminal trouble let them and their families deal with it and move on. If it's on a felony level then yes it should be addressed by the university and actions should be taken. It may be a double standard, but no one is forcing a sport upon these athletes.
