That's interesting. I used to think that the Lab Band did not exist until around 1959....and that it had evolved out of "Fresser Graham's" band.

The history page for the Division of Jazz Studies indicates 1959 as the date when the premier band, which had been the "Two O'Clock", had its rehearsal time changed to One O'Clock, by the recently hired Director Leon Breeden. Thus the name change for the band (and this debunks the theory of it having been named after the popular jazz tune "One O'Clock Jump"). Here's the link:

I have no doubt that this will be one of the finest student unions in the country given the size and amenities. But, please don't treat it like a museum. Make it an enjoyable place to visit, socialize, and enjoy campus life.

I want an old fashioned juke box and a dance floor. Now THATS tradition.

Awesome story about Jack Parr. It would be amazing to see that if a copy still exists.

It was either '60, '61 or '62. My guess is '61.
