Like any other school, we don't belabor those we missed no matter the hype, but rather praise those who stuck with us. Why dwell on something we can't change anyhow? Even in our disappointment, most all on GMG.com did wish those well who we did miss, though.

As for "almost" 3 star ratings:

O'Keeron Rutherford has a grade of a 78 on 247 (80 is a 3 star, 70-79 is a 2 star)

Shaq Jackson is a 5.4 on Rivals (need a 5.5 for a 3 star

Josh Greer was just rated a 5.4 on Rivals as well

Also, a few of our 3-stars are very close to being 3 stars on at least one more website.

Fonzale is a 5.4 on Rivals

Garner is a 5.4 on Rivals

Jalen Adams is a 5.4 on Rivals

Andrew Jones is a 78 on 247

Brandon Garner is a 78 on 247

Connor Means is a 78 on 247

Willy Ivery is a 79 on 247

Another reason we shouldn't always put too much stock into stars (I use

offer lists and film ahead of stars) is a guy like Chris Miles, the Flower

Mound offensive lineman. Look at this offer list: This is easily a 3 star

offer list yet he is a 2-star? Very excited to have him and I couldn't

care less that he is not a 3 star. Very valuable commit and smart kid

who will do well on the field and in the classroom."

Vito pretty much summed up my thoughts on his blog.

"– UNT will land some highly regarded players today, including Goree and athlete Caleb Chumley, who are both on state top 100 lists. There are also a host of other three-star players in UNT’s class. That means this year the narrative will be that recruiting rankings matter. Whether they matter or not changes from year to year and sport to sport depending on the what people want to portray about UNT and how its athletic program is performing. Those rankings mattered when Tony Mitchell transferred to UNT, when Top 150 player Jordan Williams signed with UNT and when Roderick Flemings showed up in basketball. They mattered when Jamario Thomas signed with UNT. They didn’t matter when UNT signed some absolute stickers of classes on the football front a few years ago. Coaches never think they matter and shouldn’t, but mark my words. Rankings will be back in vogue this year."
