The story on Bo Pullin

One of the names that has popped up in the final hours before signing day Bo Pullin, an offensive lineman from Victoria East.

Here’s the story.

Pullin is a big kid who is coming to UNT as a preferred walk-on, according to Victoria East coach Roland Gonzalez.

Good looking kid. He looks like he has a frame that they could add a lot of size to. They have some passionate fans out his way - would be nice to see him leave his mark.

Well I am biased but this is Bo's dad. He came from a 4A school in south Texas. When you are 6'5" and 320lbs playing in 4A it is not hard to be the biggest man on the field. He was running a 5.1-5.2 - 40 in March at 315 lbs. Bo has a very large frame, long arms and big hands that the coaches loved and can put their kind of muscle on. And he is just 17 years old right now. He had several offers from smaller schools but after a visit in late November by happenstance (A family friend knows Coach Canales and we were up here for Thanksgiving and just popped in to watch the team practice for the Bowl game), he loved UNT and decided this is where he wanted to go. His mom's family (a lot of them) live within 30 miles of Denton so there will be many Mean Green season ticket holders coming from the area and many from down south. Not often a kid passes scholarship offers to become a preferred walk on but we all just felt this was where he needed to be. Bo is so pumped we can't keep him out of the gym. He is doing cardio so he can be in the best shape he can be in July. For a big lineman to "want" to do cardio, he must be pumped! Go Mean Green!!!!!

Good luck to Bo, the walk-on program really is the best in the country. Mac takes it seriously and it has produced an all-American in Casey Fitzgerald, one of our all-time leasing receivers.

Just the past year our starting Center Kirby, Punter Blake M., CB Kenny Buyers, and WR Skip Caldwell were all put on scholarship. 3 of which made all-CUSA teams.

Ummm . . . Casey Fitzgerald graduated well before Coach Mac ever set foot on campus. But North Texas does have a long history of finding and developing all-conference type players via the walk-on program.

I read it that way at first as well, but then I re-read, and he qualified it with "and it has produced"... not necessarily that coach Mac produced Casey, but that the walk-on program produced Casey.

You've made a solid choice! Coach Simmonds is one of the best OL Coaches in the nation and Coach Wintrich is top notch also. Make sure Bo listens and buys in to these guys, doing so will provide Bo the ability to excel on and off the field! So looking forward to his progress over the next 4-5 years! Yes Bo sat down with Coach's Simmonds and Wintrich for quite a while this past weekend on his visit to watch UNT game film and to show him blocking schemes and play calls. Bo is a typical O-lineman that is a big boy (man) but yes sir/no sir to everything all the time. He is extremely coachable and respectful and will soak up everything like a sponge from the coaches. He loves these two coaches already and has not played a down for them yet. It is a good fit and I believe he will flourish here.
