Not too shabby.

The Good: Six home games, SMU as the home opener, three straight at home (build a little momentum) and I can see seven wins or more.

The Bad: Both Florida schools at home to end the season (if we're not winning, or the wind blows funny the crowds will suffer), a span of three straight weeks away from Apogee, the UTSA game might actually have meaning, the homecoming opponent won't be real attractive

Obviously NONE of these things are the fault/domain of RV and company...so the chips fell alright but no great.

Assuming that the guys moving up (and in) on the depth chart to start this fall are healthy and properly prepared & motivated, this could/should be a 12-0 season. I'm not drinking kool-aid folks. Our team is no longer in awe of "big time" programs like Texas. We'll play them the same as we played Georgia last year. But this year our chances are much better.

UTSA as the last game on the schedule strikes me as something that could become an annual thing.

...until Louisiana Tech gets back on their horse. They were down last year, and showed some signs of life late. Maybe they'll be competitive next year (pretty please!!).

Yikes. I really didn't think we would *not* get any of the Texas brethren back this next year. Gross.

Right.

Are we really going to have all 3 Texas schools at home every other year? That's dumb. I was really hoping they would re-do the schedule when the AAC schools left & the new schools came in.

How about the GB? I assume that they will be traveling to the UT game. Do you think they will make either Rice or UTSA.....or maybe both?

No, but with the division re-alignment, it was widely considered that we'd get at least one of the other Texas schools back in Apogee this year.

It's not as bad as a Suck Belt schedule, but the Texas schools being all or nothing as well as getting both F_U schools at home in the same year is a kick right to the scheduling nads. No doubt about it.

there's still a chance that C-USA makes that adjustment for the 2015 and beyond schedule. There was a note that this 2014 schedule would be independent of any other schedule. Keepin' my fingers crossed

Exactly. This schedule and last year's schedule are and were both independent. UAB will be added to the fold in the west and from there the conference will be set. This also assumes there will be no departures in the next two to three yeas which is never something that should be assumed.

Never thought we'd get stuck with both Florida schools in a single scheduling year. By the time it's cool enough for casual fans to come, the sale becomes, "Come see us play Florida Atlantic University and then Florida International University." Yuck.

Comment on the schedule from Coach Mac:

“This is a very exciting schedule that’s going to be very difficult from start to finish this season,” said head coach Dan McCarney. “We have great momentum coming off the Heart of Dallas Bowl victory, and the incredible turnout of fans is something we can’t wait to see come out for the 2014 season starting with the home opener against SMU. It will be a big challenge to start at Texas, then go to a Big 10 school in Indiana, but it will get us ready for a Conference USA schedule that’s loaded with really good teams.”

It's a stroke of luck to have all 3 in here for 1 season, but for the same 3 schools to be away this year, and also bringing 2 of last year's away games here this season (USM & LATech)... That doesn't seem like an independent schedule. I really hope we don't have to alternate all 3 TX schools home/away each year from here on out.

Bravo to coach Mac for the "coach speak". Wouldn't expect anything else...

Austin and San Antonio will have a Shep in them this season. I hope they are ready! Bottomgreen and mccox2 get the calendars marked.

Austin and San Antonio: MARKED. We're gonna need a historian as a witness to document what is to come. Go Mean Green!

I can't wait for the game in Austin. Since I live here in Austin it will be another game I get to see next year. Planning on at least going to six games next year including the UTSA game in San Antonio!
