So I guess all that talk about not being anyone's backup plan was just that.

I think we all knew, even if we didn't want to publicly admit, that he was holding out for an AQ offer.

Its always talk when you hear kids say this...

Everyone has a price or a favorite...this kid just found a name that is higher on the college football foodchain that wants him.

If a kid had an offer from SFA, Texas State, and NMSU, then got one from us, I suspect that would probably influence that recruit considerably to look at committing to UNT.

Man, it's damn cold up there. Can't imagine walking to class in that with Lake Michigan being so close. If he does go there, you might want to keep in touch with him, because as a Texas kid myself, Chicago in the winter is not fun.

I'd love to have him, but if we dont get him much rather him end up at Northwestern than Houston. You cant really argue with that decision. The academics, the big conference, tradition. I dont think he will have to sit and wait to play. If he is good enough he will see the field.

If he commits to NU, North Texas should jump on the hook ASAP and schedule them for the future out of spite. Then make sure we have a good team when we go up there and beat them. GMG

Additional money game? Another 5 game home season?

I don't think so.

DLs are difficult to find. We know that. Every coaching staff in the country knows that. Texas lost three DL commits shortly after their DL coach was not retained by Strong. And, so, now even the 'Horns are scambling to scab up some DLs from other schools.

Northwestern had Frisco Wakeland's Noah Westefield get away from them (actually...they pulled his scholie just because he visited Cal...so, there's that).

They panicked and wrenched a commitment out of a white kid in Memphis who had more FCS offers than FBS offers...and the FBS offers were Memphis, the hometown, and Connecticut. Wow.

They follow that up, it looks like, with this Washington kid, who began the season unnoticed by FBS major schools.

So, Northwestern was having to go down the ladder, while this kid's reputation and offers steadily climbed it. It happens. But, I hardly think it's a steal for Northwestern. I love the Mean Green, but let's face it...our program and Houston are not Michigan State, Ohio State, Nebraska, etc.

No one else in the Big Ten was trying to wedge this kid up from Texas, as they are prone to do with the best in the state. So, while the kid may have started for us from the get-go because our front four all graduate, at Northwestern, he doesn't really help them make a dent in competiing in the Big Ten.

Thus, I hope if he commits to them, he will get a finance degree so that he can get a decent job in five years.

Other than that...I just cheer for the kids who get to North Texas and stick to North Texas. You know what I mean?

Understand going for the education. No problem if that is what it is really all about with him.

Plus, he may want to transfer back in a year or so. Keep that door open.

Yes nothing but good wishes for him -- seems like a real good dude. Couple of thoughts, when he didn't commit to either Houston or UNT with full offers, it became pretty apparent that he was looking for something else. Very similar to the LB who chose Texas Tech last season, Kahlie Woods. I thought if he only had a greyshirt we had a chance. When Northwestern offered him a full ride it was a done deal. My only regret is that he will not get to stay in state to play, he was deserving of that.

This stings but you know not near as much as if he were choosing someone else in the conference etc. You never know how things may play out and who knows, he may decide to transfer later down the road. A+ to the UNT coaching staff for their effort on this. If you go after the best players you will lose some battles and that much better than avoiding them all together.

It stings, but it was a good fight to be in. I wish him the best of luck and hope he has a blast going to college and playing football. We've got a great group of kids lined up and I'm pumped about our future and the kids that chose to come to the school I love so much.

That would be the most depressing, loser move ever.

Analytical posters man. I could care less about northwestern. Washington will see North Texas beat up on one of his conference comrades. Wish em the best, but at the end of the day if a recruit, player, student, professor doesn't want to be here, I don't want any of them here. UNT will be just fine.
