Xavier Washington gets full offer from Northwestern

If so..............good luck, Xavier!

We then all move on to our future with this class which we knew would have been better with him, but if not, this group is still an exceptional class even without his committing to us.

BillySee58's research seems to indicate that between 4 recruiting services we are approaching 10 "3" star recruits? Been awhile for that, folks. And he also reported just how close some of our 2 stars are to being Rivals 3 stars.

We have a walk-on program with Coach McCarney that (among other players) produced the best sure-tackling DB I've seen at North Texas as in #31.

GMG!

Looks like Apogee in the background at the very start of their video.

I think he's Northwestern bound, but he had a good time getting the attention. And I don't blame him. If you think we had a twitter war for him, you should see the big name recruits who tweet stuff about every college they are interested in to get their followers count up over 10K. Those guys end up getting at it.

This is true as well. If he happens to want to be a musician, teacher, or accountant, UNT is going to be pretty tough to beat. Who knows what he wants to do?

And environmental science, public administration, city management and urban policy, health informatics, counselling, art & graphic design and a number of other top-ranked programs. We really are an underrated academic institution in terms of perception mainly because of our low endowment and low research funds...but that will continue to change and get better as people start realizing the high quality level produced at UNT for an affordable school.

Our low endowment is mainly because all of the things we excel in are not exactly the "money-making" majors anyways. We're honestly a lot like a liberal art school.

Either way -- proud of this coaching staff for putting up such a good fight. Felt like we really went toe to toe with Houston on this guy which is a step in the right direction.

Lot's of positives things were said by Xavier and his family about UNT, it's facilities, coaching staff etc. There is no shame to losing out to a Big 10 school.

Of course we will be disappointed if he doesn't choose us but this is still a great class. And these are the types of players we need to keep going after and if we keep building and winning we will land. GMG!

That's not entirely true nowadays though. Our business school is certainly emerging and will continue to do so along with our engineering programs. Discovery park will take a little time to mature, but its potential is breathtaking. And we already have a few programs highly respected that are associated with "money-making" majors, such as accounting and hospitality management. However, what we need is a change in perception and tier 1 status along with other things, such as althletics, will cause a major increase in alumni donations and overall funding. We are slowly making the right moves and we just need the administration to continue working hard and us to continue educating people about what UNT is really like.

I wouldn't say that. 20% of the 2012 grads were biz or related services majors. The issue has been making use of the alumni, connecting to students and sticking to them as they become alumni, and improving brand presence, all of which are happening and have gotten better since I was an undergrad. It's been incremental, but UNT's worlds different now than it was years ago.

Our business program is highly rated and overflowing with dollars and famous alum...oh wait.

Texas State's endowment just passed us up.

I'm sorry, I find it ridiculous that Texas State-San Marcos has a better rated business school and more endowment dollars than we do. If we had an amazing business school, doesn't seem like our endowment dollars would be a major problem.

But they are and will keep us from getting Tier 1.

UNT, unfortunately, realized Tier 1 was futile years ago when we needed $300 million in extra endowment dollars and another $30 in restricted research.

If you don't agree that our business programs and "money-making" programs are underperforming, show me proof that I'm wrong.

Our endowment is low because for decades University leadership discouraged donations because there were afraid of the influence those donations would bring.

Thankfully that has been rectified, but it will take decades to build a healthy giving culture in NT grads.

Immediate Bump.

Fair enough. Still, unacceptable in my opinion to see Texas State pass us up in endowment.

What are you talking about? Almost every single goal set by University leadership over the last decade has been directly tied to reaching Tier 1 status. Performance reviews are tied to reaching the four bold goals and tier one status. Now that the hiring freeze is over, creation of new positions is possible, and often rely on being able to tie that position to the goal of reaching tier one status.

Every effort is being made to reach Tier 1 status!

I actually think if he chooses Northwestern, that it would make a lot of sense, just because of the academic prestige and the Big Ten competition. Kids want to play at these AQ league schools. Theyalmost always get the best support, facilities, and media coverage. Pat Fitzgerald is a good coach...
