Billy and Cooley,

Did y'all see the SI article on the amount of 5 star players in super bowl vs no-2 or 3 stars I can't remember which it was. Number was astronomical. Pretty cool stuff. If you're a good ball player just like in HS no matter where you are coaches will find you. Same thing for college.

Didn't read it but I saw one of the stats. I think there are four 5-stars playing in the Super Bowl, which is a high amount considering how few 5-stars there are.

The catch is, if you're playing in the Super Bowl you're more likely to have been a two star or three star than a five star, but if you're a five star you're more likely to play in the Super Bowl. Same applies to the NFL draft. Kind of confusing, but read it a few times and it makes sense.

Exactly. Coaches will find you if you're a good player and many times players are often late bloomers or just simply guys who were overlooked. It'll always happen.

It's not a catch. There are tons more 3 stars than there are 5 stars. The point is that the percentage of five stars who are in the super bowl is higher than the percentage of 3 stars that made it.

I know this is a nature/nurture thing, you aren't automatically successful if you are a physical beast unless you pair it with hard work and smarts. But, at the same time, if you look at the list of state top 100s Dickey recruited, a really large percentage of them turned out to be complete stud players. Much higher than the percentage of walk ons or even other LOI recruits.

Yeah, not exactly a catch. Poor wording on my part. But yes, it's pretty cut and dry how it works and why it works that way. The flaws of the star system are inherent no matter how much better the system has become or will become. But it has proven to be about as accurate as it could conceivably be while only measuring what a kid does in between the white lines in high school. Often just off highlight tapes and not in person.
