MGB: Tuesday night recruiting notes, thoughts

Let him take his time, but he needs to understand the context of each offer he is offered. He probably will not play immediately, almost guaranteed. Plus If he goes to NU they will be happy to go .500 in conference. They will be happy to just make a bowl. Same can be said for North Texas, but the difference with UNT is that we are potentially on the brink of owning a division. Whereas NU will be a doormat in the big10 for years to come. The tv exposure per team is equal, but the big10 as a whole is far more superior than CUSA. Statistically, he has a better shot at being recognized at North Texas than NU. Gotta play to be seen. To quiten the critics about not being able to get drafted out of CUSA, NFL.si.com/.../2014-NFL-draft-conference-USA If you train hard, keep your grades right and become a legitimate player the NFL will find you.

You nailed it, I am probably the black sheep of the family since the rest are either preachers or teachers, but just like an aborted fetus, I really had no voice as to who would sire me generations ago. Fact is, L.T.M. Plummer was also a Texas Ranger, an Indian and Mexican killing sumbich (look at his eyes in the pic) back in that era and I'm so-oooooo glad I have such a much calmer (almost passive) disposition coupled with no fighting blood in me whatsoever. Many of my posts on this forum are proof of that passitivity, too, right? ;)

GMG!

PS: Yall got unpacked yet?

Calm, passive? I've sat by you at football games and "passive, calm, and Plummer can't be used in the same sentence.

Moved in late October and still can't get a car in the garage.

Obviously, Northwestern has a little bit of an edge over us academically, but...does anyone know what his planned major is? Some of our programs are in the Top 10 nationally and if it comes down to the best in his preferred area of study, that could still be us, even with NU's stellar overall academics.

Xavier's picture was on the front page of the DMN Sports Page this morning with this article:

http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/high-schools/matt-wixon/20140129-xavier-washington-kent-myers-know-pressure-of-waiting-for-late-offer.ece

The exciting moments came on the field, where Washington was named the Defensive MVP of the Class 5A Division II title game in December and played in the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl on Jan. 5. Then came the tiring process of taking recruiters’ calls. “All day, every day,” Washington said last week.

And then the confusing part: Why weren’t those calls ending with scholarship offers?

“Especially after the state championship,” Washington said, “I was really, really surprised that I didn’t have everyone knocking on my door.”

Until a player signs, the recruiting race — or chaos, madness or whatever — isn’t over. Early this week, as Washington was weighing whether to sign with UNT or Houston, Northwestern offered a scholarship. He’s planning a visit to the Evanston, Ill., campus this weekend.

The offer comes in the wake of Frisco Wakeland defensive end Noah Westerfield switching his commitment from Northwestern to California.

“Wherever I go, I’m going to produce,” Washington said. “And if you don’t sign me, you’re going to have to play against me.”

Well, if Northwestern U doesn't sign him chances are in a Mean Green uni' X could play against the Wildcats since the HOD Bowl game does have a contract for a CUSA school (seems their bowl officials love UNT now) to play a Big 10 opponent. Never say never....

Of course, we hope we sign him so he can play against NU (or any Big 10/Big 12 school) before a crowd with much, much more green than say..... purple?

Jeez, wasn't New Years Day, 2014, in the historic Cotton Bowl stadium one "sea of green" blast? :)

I believe it. NT coaches believe it. Looks like UH coaches believe as well... Northwestern coaches only believed it recently. But, there is a game to be played, and X is playing it well.

I want X to be here as much as the next guys does, but he does need to be careful. He's playing with fire. He could very well find himself without an offer. I'm sure it has been fun and exciting for him to have schools fight for his services, but someone else could take the last scholly at each school.

True, but he knows how good he is. He also knows that UNT & UH know how good he is. His offers from both aren't going anywhere. I highly doubt he goes to Northwestern.

Does not have the SEC, Big 10, Pac 12, or big 12 height.

Maybe not for recruits No. 1- 23 . Lots of upside for a last minute offer/signing.

Mike Hicks, one of Ryan's teammates at China Spring, was at the time the second leading receiver in Texas high school history and a hammer at Safety. Was deemed too small and too slow for D1. Wasn't offered by anybody until Briles called him the day before signing day. Turned into a four year letterman, 3 years as a starter at Safety. Ahmad Dixon couldn't take his position. Not bad for someone's "back up plan".

I know someone that didn't have SEC/Big12 size or height for DT and stood up to SEC and Big 12 Olinemen just fine. Not to mention C-USA, SunBelt and MAC Linemen too. 6'6" 320lbs is 6'6" 320lbs no matter what conference it plays for.

I had rather freeze in Evansville than live in agony from the humidity, heat and smog of Houston. Denton is just right.

They nearly have the same ozone pollution. The smog being worse in Houston is mostly BS. Meanwhile, Houston's smog is dropping drastically while DFW's has been raising dramatically ever since 2010. Neither city is very polluted in comparison, though in particle pollution.

Denton is especially bad because all the extra pollution that goes up and drifts down right on top of us. Just saying.

meangreener, are you a Fox contributor? You know.........Fair and balanced? :)

Since I've been up here in DFW (1/1972) I have yet to meet anyone from the Houston area (such as myself) who wanted to move back down there. I know there are obviously exceptions, but I have yet to meet them.

Your facts are.... curiously worded. I expect better Mr. Ace-on-written-GRE. :)

Let's talk about something much, much less controversial; you know, like, uh,.....global warming? OR.... if you're on the other side of the aisle that would be, uh (I stutter a lot)..............global cooling. ;)

I know, I'll die & go to the hot spot for saying that kind of stuff.

GMG!

PS: OK, greenminer, you are right...back to the subject at hand before this thread gets locked.

Here is Evanston's weekend forecast from the National Weather Service:

Today: High of 21, Low of 19. 80% chance of snow tonight with 1-3 inches possible. Winds 10-15 mph.

Saturday: High of 28, Low of 8. 100% chance of snow with 2-4 more inches possible. Winds 15 mph with gusts possible up to 25 mph.

Sunday: High of 16, Low of 0. Winds 10-15 mph.

That wind off of Lake Michigan is brutal in the winter!
