Would it be possible to see graphics like you might see at a mavericks game on the video board? I am talking about the ones that might have the players heads on various bodies in movies or other pre made videos (with audio as well). With our RTVF program I figure this would be possible. I think it would be cool and funny to see Benford or the players faces projected on the screen.

One fellow alum who attended our women's game at UTA few weeks ago said they put on a good multi-media show, ie, one that is quite entertaining to most of their customers or....their fans.

Show business, folks, it's still all about being show business.

Having a RTVF program doesn't mean much.

The powers that be at UNT haven't figured out how important the overall game production is. Same problem with football too. UTA is on the right track. Not saying it has to be like a Mavs game, but when done right, it can be a money maker for the program. Unfortunately for us fans, it's easier and cheaper to throw out a couple of cameras and call it a day.

As much as it pains me to say it, a lot could be learned by our people if they visited Moody.

Yup. The new video boards at Moody and Tulsa make ours look like the small TV you put in the bedroom.

You get what you pay for.

We need some spotlights, a dramatic intro, lighting changes, etc.

We need a lot more, the presentation aspect of the games is sorely lacking.

Leave that for the NBA. You don't see that crap at most NCAA schools thank God.

The Super Pit just overall needs a massive renovation. Like, really massive. Get rid of the upper bowl, drop seating capacity to 6,500, make it look better on the exterior, redo the entire lighting, add LED boards...just modernize the damn thing. It's just so outdated.

It's too freaking big, too outdated and too dark.

No, I want us to be good enough to consistently fill it. Reducing capacity is nuts. If you were there for any game where we actually had 6K Plus, you would know this.

We've never filled the Super Pit. Ever.

Moody has 7,000. That's more than enough.

There's no reason to have a 10,000 seat arena. It's larger than most of our peers arenas, even.

Reduce seating and replace with suites. More revenue. And move the media to the floor on risers behind the scorers table, let the public have those prime seats. Looks better on TV.

It was either smu or texas but I thought I heard that on this board once. Though I could be wrong

Well then I take back my comment if I'm wrong. I'd be surprised to hear we've filled it. I'm of the belief that there's more importance in creating demand, such as we did with Apogee. I don't like how empty it looks even for well attended games. Just my opinion.

I also like the suites idea as well.

We sold out against SMU back in 1977. We almost sold out against DePaul a few years later. If you wanna go recently....Against Texas Tech we had about 7500 back in 2010. Setting capacity at 6k or so, is was too low.

As far as production goes, the budget nor the staff exist to make full scale high end production happen. It takes money, which the mavs have. Rtvf students only learn theory and very little practice. The colesium does not belong to Atletics. It was built as a Multi use facility therefore it was built with that much seating, for other events, not just with basketball in mind. You want smaller venue AD would have to build one to suit.I happen to like the Suer pit just fine.

Are you out of your mind? We are a 36,000 student state school in a major metropolitan area. We need to convince people to care, not reduce our capacity to the amount of oeople that currently care. Renovations, yes. Significant capacity reduction, no. Eventually I think we will need to build a new arena.

This is why someone needs to win the billion dollar bracket contest and build us a new basketball arena.

Our board does seem pretty large though. You can see it from the outside walking in perfectly.

Agree, Mean Green Matt...

Some just don't read the growth projections of UNT, Denton and Denton County and foreverf live in the past it seems to me.

Reduction of seats at UNT? That would be tantamount to the Jolly Green Giant having a wenis reduction. Shit! Sometimes you have to wonder if we have a few of our posters strung out on meth'.

The trend is going in the opposite direction. More and more schools are enhancing their game presentation.

The only thing the Super Pit is lacking these days is a bit of effort, imagination and a couple of winning teams to play in it.

The Super Pit hosted a regional one time. But given recent results with North Texas events I can't imagine the horror that would prevail today if we were to try and host one now.

North Texas actually hosted 3 Midwest Regionals at our fabulous Super Pit. Our basketball venue was literally the rage of college basketball on campus facilities down here in the Southwest and few could top its modern features except UT with its Super Drum built a few years later after ours. SMU's Moody was built in 1956 and could not match the Super PIt with all its modern features.

I remember listening to a KRLD Sports Central radio show one evening back in the 70's when its host (Al Wisk?) had Baylor and SWC broadcast veteran Frank Fallon on his show. They were talking college basketball venues and Wisk asked Fallon: "What venues across the USA would you like to see Baylor copy when they build their BB venue?" Fallon's first response was: "I like what Fred has up in Denton at their on campus facility, especially the section for the media." Fallon was referring to UNT SID Fred Graham with that comment.

Most all MIdwest Regionals today are played at much larger NBA venues or domed stadiums so the era of 10,000 seat facilities hosting such event are most likely over.
