Good. I don't want him to leave.

Don't breathe easy yet--Message board fans don't do the hiring.

I have mixed feelings--he's done a great job for us, and I think the best is yet to come. But Coach Chico has made clear that his heart's desire is to be a head coach--if he can't land this job, he might wonder if it's ever going to happen for him. And if he starts getting discouraged and disillusioned, it's hard to be as motivated as someone in his position has to be at all times. I'm not saying that will happen to him, but it's a thought.

Also, if he can move to a quality FCS head coaching gig, it will speak well of the opportunities available for assistants on the NT staff. Which makes hiring quality assistants much easier.

I have said this from the beginning, this isn't going to happen. He will be the OC at UNT next season. Not a good scenario or situation to walk into for a first time HC job. Those of you that want Chico here at UNT, sleep easy he will be

Chico is setting himself up nicely for a long successful career in the college football. He is learning from one of the best and sponging up tactics, techniques and strategies. Coach will appreciate taking the spiral staircase instead of the express escalator in a few short years. I am glad he helped build this program in North Texas because he will always respect it and may lead it one day.
