There's always a hidden gem walk-on. I hope he's a linebacker with a huge chip on his shoulders. Michigan State found one in Kyler Elsworth who plugged that huge 4th down play against Stanford in the Rose Bowl. Good luck to whoever you are and GO MEAN GREEN!

Many of us on this forum can tell UNT walk-ons how some of the best players we've had in our history were walk-ons.

In 40 years of following Mean Green football, I cannot think of a better school for a walk-on to get their 2'nd chance than the University of North Texas; especially now under Coach Dan McCarney and his super coaching staff.

GMG!

Unrelated, but we once had a UNT Track & Field walk-on who (long story short) won a bronze medal at the '72 Olympics at Munich. His name was Bill Schmidt and he threw the javelin. (BTW, he did prove himself as a walk-on and received his scholarship at UNT).

It warms my heart to see the genuine excitement of these guys! Hope they land a spot in the team.

Makes me think we should start some type of 12th man tradition.

Walker's brother was my orientation leader. Walker was a 3-year starter at Richland. He's a little guy but he's really athletic. Good to see he made the team, especially after being out of the game the last two years (besides intramurals where he dominated). A kid we should all root for.

This film just gave me goosebumps. This kid is a selfless athlete who looks like he has a good football IQ and can be utilized in different positions. You can tell he gives it his all in every play. I'm very impressed with his footwork, vision on the field, and the patience with the ball in his hand to create a play. We need to get him into a weight room, enhance his footwork even more, and fine tune this guy to D1 status. Thank you for posting this.

A hidden gem for sure. Best of luck to this kid.

Exactly what I was thinking. We need that in kids. He will get playing time somewhere. God I love our walk on program.

He reminds me of Brelan a little bit. He's a little guy, but very hard to get down.

See I don't see that at all. I am sure he works his but off but if someone in this thread is being compared to Brelan then I see it out of Kingwood's Christopher Smith. Smaller sized speedster that makes people miss with ease.
