The rumor circling the search for the next head football coach down in Huntsville is Mike Canales is a finalist and will interview this weekend. I'm not sure what he is making at UNT but the Sam Houston job will be in the 200k range with 300k being the absolute highest. He looks like he could be a solid hire for the Kats. Does anyone have any insight on this?

I've heard Canales is an emerging front runner.

My wife would be excited since she is SHSU alumni.

I do wonder what we will do for an OC?

This question is probably putting the cart before the horse . . . but it is something Coach Mac will have to figure out quickly if Coach C is offered and chooses to take the SHSU job. Based on Coach Mac's hiring history, I would almost guarantee it would be someone he has worked with before.

I have to wonder if Conroy Hines won't at least apply for the position?

This was Coach Mac's OC the last few years of his time at Iowa State:

A former Husker offensive lineman, Barney Cotton is in his seventh season on Coach Bo Pelini’s Nebraska staff and his eighth year overall as a Husker assistant, counting his 2003 season as NU’s offensive coordinator and offensive line coach.

That might be a reach now, though.

And Coach Mac's previous OCs include:

Steve Loney, currently an NFL offensive line coach

Steve Brickey, QBs coach at Bryant University

Coach Mac worked on the same staff with Zach Azzanni at Florida, currently WRs coach at Tennessee:

This last one is the most intriguing to me.

I fear with a new coordinator, my sig line will become even more relevant.

That's always my thought when thinking about Canales leaving...I softly say this, but his nature "challenges" Mac's approach...at least it had to have some effect on stretching things out a bit more. Hopefully if he does leave we can somehow keep a dynamic element alive.

You know who Coach Mac would consider his ideal OC if Coach Canales were to leave (and please God don't let that happen)? ....DD!...... :(

I can see them now shouting in unison...."run the rock...run the rock". They'll install the draw play and call it their trick play.

DAMN! I have a sick mind............ :(

No doubt! Match made in heaven! Lol.
