SMU Fans

I love looking through their posts on their forums about the game next year and seeing "NTSU" "NTS" "North Texas State" etc. Shows how ignorant their fan base is that they don't even know what we are called!

Plus, while I love all the old timers on the forums, there are also a good number of students on here, and it's obvious students aren't on their forums, because most wouldn't even know about NTSU. Reflects the student interest in their program, and reflects the number of student butts in their seats.

SMU doesn't put a burr in my side. I could care less if they choose to call us by our old name. They only do it out of fear. Truth is, there is nothing SMU can do to stop North Texas from becoming a more dominate college football program in the DFW area.

This season, UNT was able to undo everything June Jones has done since he first set foot on the hill top. We produced more wins, better home attendance numbers, a more energized fan base, and won a bowl game at the Cotton Bowl in front of 35,000+ Mean Green fans. Beating SMU next season will be an acknowledgment of what many on this board all ready know... The North Texas football program has passed by SMU.

Go Mean Green!!!

Don't be too hard on SMU. I can remember their glory days and the great crowds at the Cotton Bowl before their disgraceful actions leading to the well deserved death penalty. Time has passed Peruna by. Sic Gloria Transit. Scrappy rules today and will for years to come.

Thik about this for a moment. They claim that we outdraw them (even in a BAD year) because we have so many more students and alumni. An interesting argument made by a delusional fan base that forgets one thing...they've been to several bowl games lately and are DIRECTLY IN THE HEART OF A CITY WITH A MILLION PEOPLE. Now, tell me again why Ford is always 1/4 full?

Most of them realize why that is. You even saw the post by their own stating that the Average Joe will NEVER care about SMU football. Don't think for one second that most of their fanbase don't recognize that same very dilemma. I don't give two sh*ts and a bowl of grits what name they refer to us as so long as we beat them on the field.

Why does anyone care what SMU fans think about UNT? Who the frig cares? The issue is with UNT fans who get so worked up over it all. It keeps giving the SMU folks cannon fodder and a reason to continue. Why? Because it gets under so many UNT fans skins and they react.

Ignore it all. It does not matter one iota what SMU thinks or does not think, and has absolutely zero impact on UNT.

Much much better things to do than obsess over SMU. Ignore them...it will go away, just like Cougar King and Froggy Style.

Don't let the donks ruffle your feathers. They are losing money on every transaction and trying to stay ahead by throwing money at it. That can't last forever.

The donks should stick with basketball and soccer. That way when their 3,000 strong fan base shows up, it is not a total embarrassment.

Wise words, however, I think the two trolls you mentioned didn't leave on their own. I think they were banished to troll elsewhere.

I think the only reason NTSU or North Texas State is even on their radar is because they know it bugs some of you. When your college has had 7 different names, yeah, it's not our fault, because most of those changes came before anyone on here was even born, but you're kind of asking for it without even doing anything. Some of our own alumni still say "North Texas State" because that was the name of the school when they attended and graduated. Whether intended as an offense or as nostalgia, this will probably stick around in one form or another as long as we have living alumni who attended the school under a different name.

Being called by the name before the change, which is still used by some of the alumni in the generation that is currently the largest set of donors to the University, isn't really any reason to get all fired up. I feel differently when it's the announcers and writers, because it's just so obvious how poorly informed they are and confuses the average Joe. But in terms of trying to be offensive, it's not really an insult unless you let yourself be insulted by it.

Mostly agree especially the part with all our various name changes....but is there any reason for someone not even alive when we were NTSU still calling us....NTSU? And in a few cases I'm talking about some of the national broadcast media, too.

Well, again, for media types its inexcusable because it just sounds ignorant. And coming from "rivals" it really isn't an insult, no matter when they were born. Broadcasters should be accurate and up to date. To avoid distancing older alumni, I usually try to just say "North Texas". It's accurate and relevant no matter the era.
