So I was on Facebook and noticed one of Emmitt's comments about the bowl, and it was related to a discussion about some TCU people going to the bowl. That got me thinking...as much as we want to green out the game, if a whole bunch of people from SMU and TCU showed up in their red and purple (respectively), wouldn't that look even better for our program? I mean, what if 5K from each school's contingent of fans pop in...wouldn't that look great for our ability to "draw from the area" and not just our own fanbase?

I, for one, hope SMU and TCU fans aren't sitting at home on New Year's Day...I hope they come out and support the Mean Green as their "next choice" since they aren't bowling this year. It would help cement what those on here already know: UNT is THE choice for actual "butts in seats" college football fans in the North Texas region. As Universities we are different animals - big money private schools vs. high-enrollment public school - so of course there will always be trash talk, but hey, if we're able to draw a little bit of outside support from local rivals when we're playing someone else, I'm all for it. After all, even though he's there to heckle, Emmitt adds to SMU's attendance figures, and the more spending and tax dollars that stay in the region, the better it is for all of us.

Thoughts?

Even if they play the Emmitt card and show up to heckle, it still helps with the attendance draw. If bowl officials know that having UNT in a local bowl will draw a few thousand extra people from the other Universities, they won't really care about the reason they showed up.
