FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- Colorado State defensive line coach Greg Lupfer has been suspended without pay for two weeks for using a gay slur when yelling at Washington State quarterback Connor Halliday in the Gildan New Mexico Bowl last weekend.

Athletic director Jack Graham also ordered Lupfer to undergo anger management and diversity training at his own expense.

So a two week suspension after the bowl game right around Christmas and New Years? The horror!

But really, unlike bearded dude, he wasn't knowingly representing the university on national television when he did that in the heat of battle. This should be a nice little first offense reminder.

Lolz.

He didn't get suspended for what he said, he got suspended for what he said being broadcast on national TV.

Far worse things are said on the field between players in the heat of battle and in practice coach to player.

I mean it was a grown man jawing with a college kid. In bad form regardless of what he said. I heard all that and worse playing hockey but it would still be tacky to get it from a coach.

Didn't one of the directional Michigan head coaches just get fired for the same thing, NOT on TV but in their own locker room? So yeah, looks like ColoSt(o,my!) is a bit more tolerant and willing to use warnings. Plus, winning a bowl game tends to make coaches seem more wanted than EMU and WMU's seasons.

Not complaining. Just wondering why someone would disagree with me.

This world would be a better place if we focused on what people did with their lives instead of what they said, don't you think?

Or we could just continue this fun game of media gotcha.

Why am I getting minus ones for saying someone who yells homophobic things at young men competing should get fired?

It's pretty obvious. In Texas there are still plenty of people who are okay with using gay slurs and homophobia in general. If you think I'm wrong, then you're a fool

I'm guessing you didn't play much football. If coaches should be fired for yelling slurs then every coach I had in High School and at North Texas should have been fired. Football players and coaches are not politically correct people. Nor should they be. When I arrived at North Texas one of my coaches told us "if you wear your heart on your elbow it's going to be broken a lot here." He proceeded to say nothing said here is personal, it's just football. It was a good life lesson too.

You're getting minus ones because it's an uniformed statement. I think most people are just tired of the PC police. (I won't minus you!)

Homophobic? You really think he's scared of homosexuals? Like Crying Game scared? Last time I checked, yelling a gay slur doesn't mean you are scared of gay people. Stop the PC train, geesh

I was actually a good football player. In no way am I PC police. If people do not have a problem with what he said fine. I am allowed to be against it. That is all.

Of course, we don't know what Halliday was saying to evoke such a reaction - he could have being calling Lupfer's daughter a cheap whore.

I'm sure such insults happen 1000 times during the course of a game. Why is using a gay slur as an insult so horrible that it warrants a suspension?

I would assume because in any one of our jobs if we said that to someone and it either got reported to HR or heard by someone, we would also get suspended or fired.
