Way emphasized he doesnt consider his high school calling work.

Doesnt feel like it, he said. My grandfather owned Way Grocery in Ashboro, N.C. for 53 years. He went in every day. I watched him at the butcher block. That was work.

Way moved from North Carolina to North Texas in 1979 soon after his father took a job in the advertising department of the Dallas Times Herald. He learned his play-by-play craft under Mercer soon after Dave Barnett passed through the lab and just before George Dunham, Rich Phillips and Mark Followill arrived.

Before Way moved to the Texas play-by-play seat he spent nine seasons in the analyst chair and four as the studio anchor. All the while, he worked high school football games.

Having his son Andy, 24, helping prepare the complicated spotting boards while serving as his game-day spotter will make his job easier. Andy first started working alongside his dad when he was 10.

Craig was always fun on team charters for football games....at one time he knew the mascot of every high school in Texas...probably still does. Great guy..glad for his success.
