The best benefit of the bowl game

Yes, going to a bowl game will give us a prime spot to showcase our team as the only DFW school to be in the post season (even heard a Ticket promo where they mentioned that SMU and TCU were staying home this year). Yes, it will give us a chance to showcase the program to recruits. Yes, it is an opportunity to energize the fan base. And, yes, it's a chance to get additional practice time in. But none of these are the best thing about going bowling.

The best thing about going bowling won't be realized until July and August. That is when the season preview magazines and Vito's season outlook are published. No longer will you see "North Texas is looking for their first winning season since 2004" or "North Texas hasn't been to a bowl in 9 years". No longer will we read "North Texas enjoyed a run of four straight bowl games but has failed to win more than five games since". That, ladies and gents, will be a MAJOR boon for our image.

I'll believe it when I see it. Our own promo for the bowl game couldn't even resist a "wet blanket" comment t by reminding people that we have never won at the cotton bowl, which is info that has nothing to do with encouraging someone to buy a ticket and attend.

Sometimes I wonder if our school's promotions could even successfully promote the second coming?

To me, the best benefit is that we can all truly celebrate the off-field accomplishments of this program and these young men.

News of academic success can feel like a throwaway compliment if attached to another losing season.

With the excitement of the bowl, the recognition they all deserve for this hard work can be rightly presented
