With the strong RTVF program we have, I would expect to be able to find podcasts of aspiring broadcasters performing play by play of our games. Do many of the students do such a thing?

Do we ever have RTVF students set up in the Pit sitting in the media section attempting to record/broadcast their play by play account of the action?

I suppose there may be some broadcast right issues, but I would think I would at least see some aspiring broadcasters practicing their craft, even if they are not allowed to publish it.

Same thing goes for the TV side of things. Seems like a great opportunity to utilize the RTVF program and resources to put on an actual production of the games. Never understood why we don't have a production crew full of students that are supplementing George/Hank with graphics, maybe some replays during timeouts, etc...

I am talking about using the best students that have shown an ability, not just anyone. It seems like it would be a terrific opportunity for some of our best and brightest to produce the games and there should be no shortage of support staff that are willing to get hands on experience.

Is this type of thing done at the college level? Seems like it would be a great opportunity to set our RTVF program apart.

The RTVF program does broadcast the games. I was the Assistant Sports Director at NTTV for a year. I can't imagine it has changed much, but when I was in the program, it was entirely student run. We directed, ran audio, graphics, replays, and stats from a closet under the pit. There were 2 students that did play by play and color. Also all cameras were run by students. We would set up all the equipment a few hours before gametime.

It was all volunteer work, but it was great "real-world" experience. Many of the people I worked with on the games have gone on to very successful careers in sports radio/television.

The unfortunate thing, is that the games are only broadacst on NTTV, so if you live outside of Denton, there is no chance of seeing the broadcast.

Yes, and done on a much larger scale at P5 schools than we could imagine pulling off here. Those schools have large athletic video departments mainly staffed with students who get paid to be the crew for the games. A lot of schools also have faculty and staff to support, teach and give connections to the next level. Here it's all student driven. It's harder than you think to find enough people to put together a crew to cover the games for free.

FYI, from what I understand, nowadays the basketball in-arena video production is handled from the state-of-the-art production suite in the Press Box over at Apogee, instead of the tiny uninsulated cargo trailer that used to be parked outside under the overhang on the east side of the Super Pit.

Paging FilmerJ.....

I wouldn't call the Apogee control room state-of-the-art, especially with what other schools have these days. Some schools have control rooms nice enough for ESPN and Fox to use them instead of renting a production truck.

When it comes to college athletic video departments, you get what you pay for. Our in-game production is seriously lacking.

So we produce and record each BBall game, with announcers and everything? And it is shown on NTTV, but not broadcast outside of that? I had no idea. Do they use the same video feed that we see on all-access?

I have noticed that recently the all-access video is switching between the full court view to a baseline fiew. Maybe it has been happening for a while, but I just noticed it switching (did notice one game basically shot from baseline exclusively). Is there a way to put some basic graphics on the screen such as score, time left, etc...?

Nope, that would be the feed of the in-house scoreboard produced by the athletic department. 2 totally different entities.

Of course there's a way, but it would take some $$$.

Remember when we got that replay monitor, though? That was pretty big time.

Not Sure if all home games are broadcast on NTTV or not. I haven't been around Denton or NTTV in 8 years. I'll check with some people who would know, and pass on what they say.
