ONESBORO, Ark. -- North Carolina offensive coordinator Blake Anderson has agreed to become coach of the Arkansas State Red Wolves, athletic director Terry Mohajir said Thursday.

Anderson leaves the Tar Heels after two seasons, replacing Bryan Harsin -- who left Arkansas State last week to replace Chris Petersen at Boise State. Anderson becomes the fifth coach in five seasons for the Red Wolves, who won at least a share of the Sun Belt Conference championship for the third straight season this year.

Auburn coach Gus Malzahn left Arkansas State after one season last year, just as Mississippi coach Hugh Freeze had done a year earlier.

Defensive coordinator John Thompson will serve as the interim coach when Arkansas State (7-5) faces Ball State in the GoDaddy Bowl on Jan. 5.
