ESPN thinks the same as SI

It's perception.

I wonder where we'd line up if 'Cuse, Pitt or Michigan had been picked against us.

Don't waste your breath. Any list will have this game near the bottom, and everyone will poo poo the author of each individual list.

Everyone is wrong.

I think CBS's breakdown (which had us at a still low #31) -- had the #35 game pegged correctly. The New Mexico Bowl, a 7-6 CSU vs a 6-6 Washington State. In what world is that a compelling game?

The only cool thing about that game is the trophy, which I've always kinda dug.

Good God!

The trophies they give out are as ugly as the women that populate that godforsaken city...

 See, I like it because it gives a nod to their Indian past. Plus, it's different than just having a metallic football on the top of some base.

(Not that there's anything inherently wrong with those -- given 90% of football trophies are some variation on that theme)

Few read and fewer still take seriously those polls. The fact is that this bowl in Dallas and the real Cotton Bowl is probably more advantageous to this program than the Liberty Bowl. Besides potential suburban school recruits, possible inner-city recruits will be there as well because of the location. Having taught at both Madison and Roosevelt High Schools once upon a time, I will guarantee those kids will be there.

Perhaps the most important aspect of this game, however, is local media coverage. Even the DMN can't ignore this game and they certainly will not be covering SMU or TCU on News Years Day. Besides all that, this might just be a very exciting football game in a wonderful setting among the largest collection of ART-Deco buildings in the world. SEE YOU AT THE COTTON BOWL ON NEW YEARS DAY! GO MEAN GREEN!

I mean, it would look great in my girl friend's Spanish Colonial (I think that is what it is called) home ( at least I think it would).

Is there a hole in the top to put flowers in?

EDIT: There is!! It's a freaking vase!

ESPN and their bowl messing around decided that our best match-up would be UNLV. If this is what they think of their own doing, then F'em. F'em all.

Maybe the HOD will be a statue of a bleach blond with big ole fake knockers.

I mean, if we are going with the whole "representing the city's culture" angle...

Have it play Dave Mathews when you hold it up.

As for SI, they're just pissed because 12 year olds don't hide their Swimsuit Issue under their beds anymore.

They are just pandering to their big conference audience. This is one of only maybe 6 bowls that does not feature a big conference school and it is at the same time as several others that do. This is what we are gonna get until there is a longer track record of winning. At least we are potentially at the start of that. Do not be discouraged.

Discouraged? Hell, I'm just glad I'm not still trying to figure out why I'd want to go to Memphis at this time of year, or any time of year. I think it'd take W.C. Handy, Sam Phillips, and Mark Twain combined to explain it to me. And no, I've never been there. I go to Dallas every working day of my life, and will be glad to go on New Years Day, 2014.
