Michigan would not have been an ideal match up.... :/ We need to WIN.

The POINT is, that certain teams were not interested in playing us..... AND that is ok and understandable right now.

SSP you are missing a few things.

1) We would have hung and had a real chance to beat those kid tier B10 programs, they wouldn't have "kicked our butts."

2) We match up better with some of those B10 teams that we do with UNLV, who reminds me of UTSA, and we know how that went.

3) Lack of respect had nothing to do with a B10 team not coming here, they didn't have enough bowl eligible teams, and other bigger programs like BC lobbied hard to get into the HoD.

None of that means that people aren't ecstatic to be in a bowl game.

While I have already been in this board saying we should just support the team no matter the opponent. I'm sure those who wished for a different opponent will, come game time, support the team. However, I do get the other side too... Players read the board? Then they should be happy that many think we could have beaten a Michigan. I think the bowl committee may have done us a favor this time around with a team that has many similarities to ours. We should be scared of no one, but respect every opponent. You site UTSA? If they are like UTSA then show them UTSA was a fluke. Cerbus I have no beef with you I understand your point. If we are worried about the opponent and whether or not they will bring fans when the bowl is in our back yard, then then there is no hope. People don't want to come? They'll wish they did. We have to take care of our business. Try to get people to come, if they don't, well so be it. There will be those that do. I wasn't able to go to the NO bowls and I've regretted it ever since. I never thought it would take us ten years to get back... So I'm excited as he'll for this team to get a shot and for me to be able to watch them take it UNLV and show the bowl committees they didn't make a mistake in selecting us.

This is what I don't get people not getting.

No.... don't get me wrong.... I get it, C. Im just saying that there isn't a d thing we can do about it so we should rejoice in the hand we have been dealt and look forward to this being the BEGINNING OF OUR NEW STORY, not treat it as some fluke that happens every 10 years (ish). And I am sorry.... But I witnessed Michigan in person this year.... We would have competed and lost, IMO. However, I believe in Santa and the magic of all things being possible this time of year. ;)

PRECISELY. and YES. A lot of our players read this board. And most of them scratch their heads at the fact that it doesn't matter what they do- most of our loyal fans will have something to pick at.

Have a drink, people.

I agree. A slower plodding team from the Big 10 may very well had been a better matchup for us. So how are we gonna feel if UNLV kicks our butts? A lot worse than a Michigan I suspect, and UNLV has the quick strike offense to make a run at that. I also don't believe that baby steps are mandatory in moving up in the football pecking order of the world.

For our players that read this board...

I believe in you, and I believe you could have given a BIG 10 or ACC team more then they wanted. Sorry you won't get that chance. Congratulations on a great season. I can't wait to watch y'all fight the Rebels on New Years Day at the HOD. Go Mean Green!!!

SSP I am not blaming anyone at NT for us playing UNLV. It's just bad luck.

I also saw Michigan play this year. I saw them have to comeback to beat Akron by 4, I saw them have to score 10 points late in 4th to sneak by uconn, i saw them let 5 win indiana score half a hundred on them. I think we would have given them a hell of a game and had a real chance to beat them and make a huge splash among out alumni.

Having to play UNLV is fine, they will a tough matchup for us. I will be there, I will bring as many people as possible, and I will have fun cheering on the Mean Green.

Just because everyone isn't thrilled to be playing UNLV doesn't mean they need to be preached to about proper fandom, for cripes sake!

Some of you need it get the F over it.

Agreed. That is exactly what it was. Bad luck. For San Jose State more than for us.

AND SOME OF US need to smile once in awhile.

ESPECIALLY, those of us that have spent half the damn season bitching about how everything about our program sucks. Theres a time for that and as we PROCEED INTO THE BOWL THAT EVERYONE WANTED ISN'T ONE OF THEM.

And I would never question YOUR fandom, 90. I didn't go to an away game without seeing you this year. In my book, your opinion weighs more than most of the people on here that post BS and haven't attended a game all year.

Actually I wanted the Fiesta, but would have settled for the Liberty.

Is proper fandom saying that Michigan or Iowa would kick our butts?

That's obviously a question that can only be answered by someone with a family member on the team.
