The attention of UNT fans is squarely focused on the Heart of Dallas Bowl, and that’s the way it should be.

UNT will face UNLV on Year’s Day at the Cotton Bowl.

But I did come across an interesting tidbit the other day in terms of recruiting, and in a sense UNT’s chances of capitalizing immediately on a breakout season that I thought was worth posing.

UNT has 15 players committed at this point.

The total number of players UNT will take in this class is a moving target, which is pretty typical. The working number is 19. UNT is just about done.

Here's an article on backcounting. We can sign 27 this year, we just might not have 27 open scholarships.

I didn't think Blake Macek would be included in the signing class, I thought he just counted towards the 85 total scholarship players. Pretty sure putting walkons on scholarship doesn't count towards the signing class.

I counted that we have 17 scholarship seniors and I counted 77 scholarship players currently on the team (after Cody Nelson has quit). That would be 25 open scholarships for next season, and that's before this season even ends. Some guys will most likely quit (injury or non-football related) or transfer out. We should be able to sign 27, at least 25.

We need defensive linemen and big bodies OR game breakers with the rest of these spots. If you sat on an offer you may be out of luck because a whole new batch of talent will start coming available in the next month.

What does this staff do if say, six highly-rated players will commit to North Texas? Do you go back and tell two projects that you can't honor their commit? I know that it's done with other teams but I don't know about the Mean Green.

Game breakers? Watch the video. He is also good at track.

Impressive video. Why is Rice the only one that has shown interest?

I saw their first playoff game this year. He limped pretty bad at times but still managed over a hundred yards, picked off a pass, and had some fierce hits.

I heard he had missed some games and had both ankles sprained.
