Any of you stats guys know how UNLV measure up vs our wins/losses? - i.e. if UNLV is 110 nationally against the run how many of the teams we beat this year were better/substantially better than that. etc etc

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but I wanted to take a closer look at UNT's rush offense VS UNLV's rush defense, so here's how it breaks down per game:

UNT's Rush Offense = 184 yds/game - national rank: 47

Opponents' Defense:

Idaho: 211.8 yds/game - rank: 104 - UNT ran for 187yds Aug31

Ohio: 180.2 yds/game - rank: 78 - UNT ran for 104yds Sep7

Ball St: 194.8 yds/game - rank: 93 - UNT ran for 231yds Sep14

Georgia: 148.5 yds/game - rank: 42 - UNT ran for 7yds Sep21 - ouch!

Tulane: 120 yds/game - rank: 16 - UNT ran for 34yds Oct5 - ouch again!

Middle Tenn: 185.4 yds/game - rank: 85 - UNT ran for 303yds Oct12

LA Tech: 194.8 yds/game - rank: 93 - UNT ran for 165yds Oct19

Southern Miss: 224.6 yds/game - rank: 113 - UNT ran for 229yds Oct26

Rice: 155.4 yds/game - rank: 54 - UNT ran for 149yds Oct31

UTEP: 247.8 yds/game - rank: 117 - UNT ran for 317yds Nov9

UTSA: 143.1 yds/game - rank: 35* - UNT ran for 105yds Nov23 - *UTSA not officially ranked because of their provisional status.

Tulsa: 198.9 yds/game - rank: 97 - UNT ran for 377yds Nov30 - Byrd went off for National Player of the Week

Good run defenses hold the Mean Green rushing attack at bay. Bad ones are taken advantage of.

UNLV's Rush Defense = 221.8 yds/game - national rank: 110

Opponents' Offense:

Minnesota: avg 200.9yds/game - rank: 34 - Minn ran for 221yds Aug29

Arizona: avg 265.8yds/game - rank: 11 - Ari ran for 397yds on Sep7

Cent. Michigan: avg 132.8yds/game - rank: 99 - CMU ran for 113yds on Sep14

W. Illinois: avg 154.5yds/game - rank: *FCS - WIll ran for 197yds on Sep21 - almost 200yds to a FCS team

New Mexico: avg 308.8yds/game - rank: 7 - UNM ran for 497yds on Sep28 - this single day probably skewed UNM's season avg quite a bit!

Hawaii: avg 114.6yds/game - rank: 113 - Hawaii ran for 129yds on Oct12

Fresno St: avg 160.8yds/game - rank: 71 - Fresno ran for 206yds on Oct19

Nevada: avg 179yds/game - rank: 54 - Nevada ran for 130yds on Oct26

SJSU: avg 137.3yds/game - rank: 95 - SJSU ran for 312yds on Nov2 - SJSU doubled their poor avg

Utah St: avg 178.8yds/game - rank: 55 - UTSt ran for 143yds on Nov9

Air Force: avg 262.7yds/game - rank: 13 - Air Force ran for 228yds on Nov21

SDSU: avg 159.8yds/game - rank: 74 - SDSU ran for 88yds on Nov30

After SJSU doubled their avg on UNLV Nov2, it looks like UNLV settled down, keeping each of their last 3 teams well below their rushing averages.

Taking a closer look, this may not be quite the advantage we thought it was. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I think we all know coach McCarney is going to try and run the ball anyway.
