It's good to have meaningful discussion on everything. There's always room for improvement. It's just the same people who constantly tell us how much they hate the coach or the AD or the ticket office or the admin or the players or uniforms. It seems like it will never be good enough or right in their eyes. It's just a small handful but they seem to crap on everyone's parade.

Where they are from isn't the point of what I said, the fact that there will be few of them is. I expect a Cincinatti @ NOB level turnout.

And that was mostly the Cincinatti Bearcats marching band and band sponsors I suppose. It was a pathetic showing for their school albeit some of their fans claimed that was due to a big basketball game on campus that same night..

And I believe it was that Tuesday night game in the Big Easy that in that year's bowl's DVD the narrator said North Texas had 17,000 traveling fans that evening. For a weeknight game I always thought that a most impressive number. Wish we could double that for the HOD but those damn $75 dollar tickets might throw a monkey wrench into that. Did someone say the HOD Bowl had the highest priced tickets of all the bowls that G5 schools were participating?

Bingo...I think last year's contest was around the same spot...and that had 2 auto qualifier schools.

No, someone from CBS said last year's HOD match up of Okie State and Purdue was the single WORST bowl of the entire year. In fact none of the bowls to which had a CUSA team was listed above the 20s based on that bowl rating. The guys who work hard to find an excuse not to go will do so no mater who we play.

Honest criticism is good unless it's all you do; then it can get tiresome.

If you are disappointed that we did not have a Big Ten opponent, you certainly have a right to complain. Also, get ready for next year because it's highly doubtful that the HOD Bowl will have a Big XII opponent either. It's #7 or #8 on the Big 12's list of commitments. So let's just be thankful for what we have.

UNLV might be far down on the list of opponents that you'd like to see but it's at the top of mine. I'd like to have payback for my road trip to hell. Back in 2000 (I believe it was) my wife and I went on a charter trip to Las Vegas to see us play UNLV. The flight was about the only good thing that happened to us. We lost a couple of hundred in the casino, my wife caught a 24-hour virus while there, complete with vomiting and dehydration, and we got the crap beat out of us at the game. Worse than that, it happened during the game and I spent the last half down at the first aid station and in an ambulance, followed by a few hours in an emergency room. More $$$ down the drain. I'll never forget that trip but I can get some measure of satisfaction if we return the favor.

I also remember that trip well. I remember being surprised how far out of town the stadium was and the fact that they sold mixed drinks there..

Cerebus is not crying. I think the main thing he wants to convey is that there is a dramatic difference - to anyone on the fence about going - between UNT playing UNLV, vs. UNT playing Michigan.

I think we are all pretty happy about how this season has played out and will be celebrating the bowl game.

Thanks for getting my point. Doesn't seem that difficult to grasp. I'm sorry if some people were scared of playing a middle of the pack B10 team, but this team could have beaten one of those teams.

Take Michigan for example, come from behind win to beat Akron by 4, had to score ten points in the 4th to slip by uconn, let Indiana score half a hundred on them. And after a 7 win season they go take on a seven win KSU, which we gave hell to when they had a Heisman candidate.

If we beat UNLV, we will get some good local press. If we lose, people will roll theirs eyes at us. Just playing a B10 team in a bowl game would have created more buzz and beating a Michigan or Iowa (in front of 20k+ of their fans) would have been a program changer.

I LOVE GOING TO THE HOD BOWL! I'LL BRING AS MANY PEOPLE AS I CAN. I JUST WISH WE GOT A B10 OPPONENT LIKE CUSA HOUSTON DID IN 2010.

Ding ding ding ding.

But some just want to catorgorize this as being negative because you aren't all rah rah this is the greatest opponent ever.

This has nothing to do with UNLV and everything to do with what could have been a program changing bowl match up/

As it is, it's simply a step, and not a program changing leap.

agreed...it's a step...in the right direction.

IMO a "program changing leap" this year would be

1) upsetting an 8-4 Georgia and then one more win against Ohio, Tulane or UTSA. 10-2

2) losing to Georgia and beating the rest 11-1

then...maybe...we get Michigan in the HOD

We're getting closer...but not there yet...

our regular group of 10-15 looks like it could be 30+ for HOD!

GMG!

But we seemed to realize that a big 10 team was out of the picture over a week ago. Yet here we still are. What's the point of continued bitching other than to spread the negativity to those that may be on the fence? It certainly would have been nice, but it didn't happen.

The acc schools might have been marginally better but frankly I don't see a Syracuse or other team sending more than a couple thousand when they only get low 30k at home against similar teams (I did think Pitt might send 5k or so, but look where they ended up).

In the end, I am not sure if ESPN even allowed HoD to invite the acc schools since they needed a spot for a MWC team.

I get being proud of the program and wanting other people to tell us how pretty we are and brag to our AQ buddies. Sucks we didn't get who we were hoping for, but just another reality slap of how far we still need to go.

Dude.

I'm HEARING the "negativity" from those I know that are on the fence. I'm not spreading crap. I'm trying to sell this game to casually interested alum, and so far, not so good.

But we seemed to realize that a big 10 team was out of the picture over a week ago.

And the replacement talk was teams like Boston College, Washington St and Pitt. You don't think the local media would have gone nuts over Leach coming back to Texas?

The UNLV selections wasn't made by EPSN. This isn't an ESPN bowl. It was most likely made by the CUSA office because the CUSA/MWC scheduling agreement talk is heating up again.

Like i said before, if we were invited to a bowl where the regular tie in was the MWC, no one would have said a single word. But it looked like we were going to get a beatable B10 team, and after that fell through like a beatable AQ school was coming in. I have no idea why being disappointed in that is so offensive to some people on here.

No doubt. I was pumped over a B1G team. I was WAY less pumped, but still pumped about a possible ACC team even if it was 6-6 team. Then I started checking into all 3 ACC teams and realized they were meh.

When the announcement came out about UNLV, I was like WTF, but once I started looking at how all the dominos fell and how ESPN was likely pulling the string, I was just mad at the B1G for not qualifying enough teams and leaving the decision up to someone else.

Don't agree with ESPN not being behind this pulling the strings. Maybe just conspiracy theorist in me, but do you think CUSA is going to give up a matchup with an AQ team and give it to MWC?

After looking at it from several angles, I think we probably overrate the value. It's like getting the invite to the party because you can drive. The popular kids still ain't going to like you after the party. Time to start our own business and make our own money. F'em. F'em all.
