CBS 11 Just gave us a shootout for being only DFW team in a bowl and said we would be playing in the Heart of Dallas bowl!

Question Answered....all the people who some how think any of this is BAD for our program is nuts.

NBC 5 mentioned on their 5:30 broadcast that we are playing in the Heart of Dallas Bowl. They even said we would probably be playing UNLV. No video. No photos.

Just my observation, but they didn't seem enthusiastic about it.

This would be a TOTAL Slap in the Face if the D/FW Media did this... Especially, with SMUt and TCUps at Home this Bowl Season! But, nothing surprises me with the Metroplex Media.

Some people know we are going a bowl:

Check out @newyscruggs's Tweet:

Good Dan McCarney. He has North Texas in a bowl game. The Heart of Dallas Bowl. I always thought he was darn good coach back at Iowa St.

If we'd had a P5 opponent I think we would be happy with our DFW coverage.

With a G5 opponent I just don't know and have my doubts. (We've had 1 winning season in the last "almost" a decade and all should try to keep the right perspective as far as our ability to draw P5 schools in a bowl game at this juncture of our football history of late....if we have 3 or 4 winning seasons in a row with Top 25 rankings during some of those seasons I think that will change).

Wonder if North Texas will run a (quite expensive) full page Dallas Morning News ad for this game (and other things about our school)? Might as well kill 2 birds with 1 stone, right, drex)? Those 2 electronic signs off I35-W right before Pilot Knob Ranch should increase with HOD Bowl commercial stills.

Pull out all the stops, North Texas! This bowl game on New Years Day would have a return on such an investment. It could very well wake up some of our frozen chosen who have all the big bucks, too.

Media Attention however small or big should be greatly appreciated and met with a lot of gratitude. This program and athletic program in general has been in the DUMPS for years. Take what we can get and keep making plays, in time they will begin giving respect once it has been earned.

Not nearly as much as we would have gotten with a Big 10 or ACC opponent.

2 programs with no history of recent football success equals a big Meh from local media.

I hate you even more, Big10.

You know, there are quite a few NT graduates in the area that the news organizations may see an opportunity to pander to...even though its just UNLV. Let's just win and get to a better bowl with a better opponent next year with all the recruits that like our 30k fans that showed up.

I'd rather go to this sane bowl next year (swapping out of the Liberty Bowl) with a better opponent.

Like the bowl, hate the opponent.

So now a possible 2 Texas HS play-off games at (per the article).....Apogee Stadium, UNT’s beautiful new stadium........ both on the same day or both one day apart now?

To quote the late Jackie Gleason: How Sweet It Is!

They'll be same day if I had to guess. I think all 4 coaches want this weeks game done so they can prepare for the next round.

I wanted a big 10 team too...I just don't think this is as big of a deal as some people are making it. Could it be better? sure. Is it sufficient to help the program take a big step forward? Yes.

3 and 7 or 7:30 only hang up is if Guyers opponent can't get to the stadium then they'd take Ryan's slot and Ryan would play Tuesday. Which doesn't make much sense if they had to flip times then I would just want my time flipped. It is a mess, kind of like I35 right now

Driving home from downtown Dallas on Thursday, I noticed a digital billboard cycling ads for the Heart of Dallas Bowl. Curious to see if they add the teams to that ad this week.

Billboard was around Walnut Hill and Central Expressway.

I saw the same billboard. I am sure they will add the teams to that. Hopefully UNT buys space on that board and has it flash with just UNT stuff after the HOD announcement that goes across the screen.

I'm happy with the opponent. We have a great shot at dominating in this game. We will be the only DFW team playing and looking good doing it. I'd rather win the HOD in convincing fashion than get blown out by Michigan or some other traditional power. If that happened then the local coverage would be about how we didn't belong there and the HOD committee should have picked someone else.

I think our current matchup sets up well for us.

Yeah...it is silly to think getting more publicity before and after an embarrassing loss would help the program more...wouldn't that just encourage more "same ole North Texas" comments. Beat UNLV then we can beat the Whorns to get our power conference win.

Wow

I guess we're still a ways away from convincing even our own fans, let alone the media/casual fan that we belong.

Why were the Mean Green doomed to an embarrassing loss VS anyone who would be slated for the HoD? It's not like we're gonna play FLSt or something.
