What happens those prospective students who are on the waiting list to get into their prospective university, that see a football player jump the line and take a student spot? Are they even student athletes anymore?
These bowl games are exhibition games, so meaningless they are virtually jokes . Start an all freshman team, or use those guys at the end of the bench that never get to play, or let your cheerleaders play.
At one point, it was indicated that NIL would be limited to the actual amount someone’s “name, image or likeness” is really worth: which is not very much at all if it is not “pay for play”.
Like, how much would you really pay for someone to retweet a local HVAC ad or show up to an elementary school to read to the kids: maybe a couple hundred bucks or a few thousand max?
The players would get their revenue share from the school, but NIL would be capped at true market value.
This is heading towards collective bargaining. Wish we could just skip ahead to that part and get a system in place with rules that could be played by and enforced.
