I will say that from the viewpoint of accounting, SMU in Dallas and TCU in Fort Worth have a network that hires their own whereas UNT really doesn't, save one very questionable operation.

On the other hand, where it counts, which means earning your keep after you're hired, UNT students are actually prepared.

SMU literally is a one trick pony. They have an amazing MBA. The only noteworthy aspect of an otherwise underwhelming school for rich C students.

I've worked with many alumnus from both schools and there's no question who's better. To get back on to the original Ponyfans point and something we can all agree on: they're nowhere near Ivy material.

Maybe they could band together with all the other southern private schools that think so much of themselves (and only God knows why) and call themselves the Kudzu league.

I think the private schools are all at risk in this new football driven D1 sports landscape. It is impossible for them to draw the amount of statewide/national following that the leagues are looking for.

I would not be surprised to see them look at dropping down in football at some point and trying to focus on olympic sports. The have poured a shit ton of money down the hole chasing the glory years. They have been priveliged their whole existence. They have no idea what schools like Houston went through. Houston is similar to us, starting with basically nothing and working their way up. They were fortunate to actually make it into the club for a while before getting kicked out. They have no issue trying to work their way back up, but SMU does the only thing they know how, which is to throw money at it. Eventually theyhave to make a business decision.

We just need to keep taking care of our own business. I like where we are currently at, and think there will be more options available within the next 10 years, if we can stay the course.

Take every one of thoses schools out of their current conference and put them in a G5 conference and then let's revisit. There will be a few exceptions, but otherwise, it is going to be tough sledding for the private schools that don't have the benefit of a power conference.

Take anyone out of a big 5 conference and life gets tougher. It's a hypothetical that isn't going to happen. The aforementioned schools will continue to flourish. They aren't going anywhere. I just watched one of them down the wealthiest program in college football too.

As for SMU they may never be anywhere close to where they use to be. I'm not sure being private has a ton to do with it. Look how bad we've struggled since we made it back to D1 after being relegated to 1AA. I think it's a better example that proves just how hard it is the claw your way out of a hole. Let's just hope our team isn't a one hit wonder this year.
