So a big difference from this game and the ones we played in New Orleans 10 years ago is social media, in particular twitter. How can we use this tool to help build awareness and ultimately attendance for our bowl game?

We have great numbers of students and alumni here locally and when you tie in a potential college bowl game around a huge event (New Years Eve in Downtown Dallas) I think this is something totally new for us and much bigger in scope than anything we have done in the past.

The visibility we could gain from merging the two together could be huge. The last couple of years I have watched that New Years show at Victory grow in size and coverage. Think about how cool it would be if they pan the TV cameras and see our fans and alumni wearing their Mean Green gear??

I know I am sounding like a broken record about this opportunity but I think UNT needs to think BIG and really think social media could be an important tool in getting the word out and emphasizing the importance of our fan showing in Dallas before, during and after the game. GMG

PS we need a social media hash tag specific to this Heart of Dallas bowl if one hasn't already been created.

I think the party at the Omni and the brunch (where?!) will help a lot. I've already talked to some disconnected alumni who want to go to HoD and take family, but we could help boost turnout even more if we get people to the pre-game festivities, because they may decide at the last minute to check out the game. By this, I mean if there are people not very into sports who go to the other events, they may just go ahead and go to the game anyway if they're already having fun with everybody. Could we tag the events separately? Or do you need to purchase a ticket in advance to get into those events? I'm thinking about the big picture, long-run implications here to use the bowl game (and surrounding festivities) as an impetus to re-involve as many people as possible, if we can.

ESPN Radio gave a SportsCenter update yesterday morning while I was going to the gym. Landry Locker said "bowls with a local interest" and proceeded to name every TX School in a bowl except UNT & HoD Bowl. I took to Twitter to let him know of his #fail, he laughed & apologized for wearing Big 12 goggles. What do you know...couple hours later on my way into the office I heard the same list of bowls but this time "North Texas vs UNLV in the Heart of Dallas Bowl".

I had a Twitter account for a couple of years and would never tweet, had 20 followers, and only used it as a source. This season, I revamped it around my Halloween costume, which I will also be donning at the Cotton Bowl, and love the connection it brings with players, coaches, and other fans. By putting just a little bit of effort into it, I have increased followers to 350+.

It can be a powerful tool, as was demonstrated to me by my ability to get North Texas a mention on ESPN radio. I will continue to do all I can, because we need it.

For the UTSA game, I bought the only two remaining front row seats in the endzone, section 113. I was so pleased that it had filled up that much already. However, when I showed up to my seats, it was orange to the left and right. Our senior day crowd was disheartening. Our Cotton Bowl crowd must make up for that.

#MGBowlBound #Hit9 #PackTheCottonBowl #GreenOutBigD #GoMeanGreen #HeartofUNT

Keep in my, the whole point of # is to be searchable, clickable. You can find other Mean Green fans easily that way. For example, I would guess UNTflyer is Flash Jordan on Twitter.
