Anybody else think it's ridiculous the champions of the SEC won't get to play for a national championship. They are hands down the best conference and beat each other up week in and week out.

Not really, under this stupid system. It's set up for opinion not what's done on the field. I must admit that this time at least it may be (only) two unbeatens.

Who do you think should be in the championship game? Auburn? Alabama? Missouri? They've kind of shot themselves in the foot by being so power hungry. Don't worry, they'll still make millions without having a participant in the championship game.

If we really want a real champion we'd have a 16 team playoff with the winner and runnerup from each P5 conference and the winners and best runnerup from the G5 conferences. It's a fairer spread of competition and money.

The highest profile, most watched college sport has the worst championship methodology.

I agree with you about the full playoff with all conference champions. For this year, I think the champion of the SEC should be in the game, although under the current system that won't happen. I'm talking strictly from a football perspective. Under the current system a strong conference can beat each other up and eliminate itself from the title game...a true playoff is the only way to avoid this.

At least next year we start the mini-playoff, which is a start. I think it would be a bizarrely fitting end to the BCS if the conference that has won or played for most of the championships in the last decade was left out. The only fun thing with Missouri getting in (if they win and Ohio State or FSU gets upset) is that it would be their first, if I'm not mistaken, title game. I have no interest in watching yet another Alabama or Auburn team play for it.

Just for giggles...using Gray's playoff, we would see Missouri, Auburn, Ohio State, Michigan State, Baylor (I assume), Okie State, Stanford, ASU, FSU, Duke, BGSU, NIU, Fresno or USU, ULaLa, UCF, and Rice or Marshall. Considering the seeding would likely be national and not regional, there would be some really interesting games in there. Of course some would probably be a slaughter, but with the dark horses getting in, anything could happen. Sounds like fun.

Depressing that NIU lost. No little guy in a big bowl this year.

Therein lies the issue with conference championship games. the MAC lost 8 million tonight. Was it worth it?

The SEC still has a shot at getting in depending on what happens today. They've done the best job of any conference in identifying their top teams every year and then setting their schedules up to give them the best shot at getting a team into that bus champ game (ie, this year their top 2 teams were supposed to be tamu and bama and they played early in the season with both teams playing sec schedules that were backloaded with easier games. This year auburn and Mizzou came out of nowhere).

There is a lot more that goes into this than most realize. Also, the 4 team playoff won't change any of this. The sec will continue to play the system better than the other conferences and may end up with multiple teams in every few years. To me, that will suck much, much worse than what we have now. We won't see a little guy making the playoffs EVER....until they expand to include more teams. With a contract that prevents that from happening for 10 full years, we may see a very different football landscape by then.

Aren't they already talking about going to an 8 team play-off? That would help the G5 cause substantially, but 16 would put the G5 group back in the ball game even more. .

The 4 game playoff thing still ain't going to help the P5 crowd who always finish down the line in all their respective conferences no matter how they paint another picture or scenario to future recruits. (Did you hear that, Gary Patterson)?

GMG!

Looking at December weather of late, it makes me wonder about CUSA conference championship games in the future. How much does CUSA really make from the TV people to have one?

North Texas has not played too many December games and the last 4 we did play were in the Mercedes SuperDome way down yonder in New Orleans.

Again...how much for a sliding roof on top Apogee Stadium?!?! LOL!

Well depending on how things go with the Heart of Mean Country Bowl, and next season, fingers crossed we might need to play the next few C-USA championship games in AT&T because Apogee is too small.
