NT Closed at 1 Today, All Day Tomorrow

Dec. 5, 2013

UNT will close at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, and will remain closed Friday, Dec. 6 due to inclement weather. The closure affects all offices, libraries and classes. WebCT classes and online testing will continue as scheduled.

We will make every attempt to make a decision about the possible need to remain closed on Saturday as early as possible.

Your safety is always our primary concern. Closing a university for weather conditions is always a difficult call, especially near the end of the semester. I know this closure can interfere with the learning process so I hope that faculty and students will find ways to continue their studies at this time so courses can be completed successfully.

Any changes in test schedules or project deadlines for individual classes will be communicated by faculty via e-mail or Blackboard.

For updates about continued closures or delayed openings, visit UNT.edu, @unteaglealert on Twitter or Facebook.com/NorthTexas.

And please be careful during these difficult weather conditions.

Sincerely,

V. Lane Rawlins

President

My junior year we had that huge, record, snowstorm. Right before the storm hit, my two roommates and I went to Midway and stocked up on beer. Awesome times were had that week. I think we ended up having three days worth of class canceled.

Hopefully currents students take advantage of this.

Was that 2011? There was an ice storm in February that I swear had me missing a whole week of classes. But I think I only had three classes by then, so three days would've made sense. There was about a inch and a half thick layer of ice over Lewisville, so I took my Element out to an empty parking lot by Fuzzy's and wend sliding all over the place. Fantastic times. Then I bought a case of beer, and my kid made me a beer bucket with snow. It was epic.

I don't envy anyone driving in the Metroplex right now, or for the next day or so. Too many idiots who still drive 45 MPH+ on ICE... Well, there's still plenty here on the Front Range that I saw this morning, where it's a BALMY 4 degrees...and will get down to 15 under again tonight. Fun trek to go watch my Texans lose after work!

Keep in mind campus was already going to be all but closed tomorrow . . . it's Reading Day.

But still, unlike my employer, UNT wasted no time shutting the doors today, which I really appreciate. I just wish it had been BEFORE I'd already attended both of my classes today.
