Why and what tone did he single out North Texas, ie, located in the USA's 5'th largest TV market with a large enough UNT constituency in the DFW market to make a difference in the ratings department, too, starting with 37,000 students, over 200,000 DFW UNT alums and even 700,000 in Denton County, ie, our schools home

county.

Hey, Rick, I don't think TCU is going to a bowl game this winter so...................has that had an effect on the Miltary Bowl folks attitude a bit?

Coach Gary "Hulk Hogan" Patterson is probably on their selection committee, too, so you know Baylor would never be on that list any time soon, either; that is, if they were ever part of the mix of schools that could be invited. :)

We were talking about this in another thread. It's not a shot against North Texas, even though we wouldn't travel jack to that game. It's just that a lot of "experts" were predicting us to be in the Military Bowl, and he has probably been asked about that multiple times. But he also probably has inside knowledge of where we are going, and if he knows we are going to the HOD Bowl he can say, "It's not going to be North Texas."

Reading only the quote above, Steve Beck comes off on the snooty side. After reading the entire article, its just who is available at what position. The article refers to the Military Bowl, the Little Ceasar's Pizza Pizza bowl, and the Heart of Dallas Bowl as picking from other teams.

I've got my heart set on the Heart of Dallas Bowl.

Agreed, this is probably the case.

Obviously another thread I didn't read. Just saw the title of this thread and responded in kind.

And I obviously I (embarrassingly) have this bowl game confused with the one in Fort Worth. (Yet another senior moment which I've been told by other seniors will only get worse). How many damn bowls are there again? I remember when there were only about 4 to 8 bowls and that around the same time of Custer's Last Stand at the Little Big Horn I reckon'.

Unt-Leftovers really?

Yes, Ms. Ybarbo,I resemble that, too.

Wonder if the (inside the USA Today Top 10) Georgia Bulldogs thought we were left-overs going well into the 3'rd quarter of that game when it was tied?

This North Texas Mean Green football team if it puts a similar kind of effort like that one (and the Ball State game among others) together no matter who we play (or whatever bowl game) we will see just how left-over our alma mater's football team looks to some of the national sports media who rarely know there are other schools outside the Top 10 that play on Game Days.

I read that as a CUSA team being paired with a leftover from another conference because of a lack of Big Ten teams available, not as saying we were leftovers. I hope we do get a Big Ten team though, Michigan or Nebraska would be awesome. We would have a good shot at knocking off a perennial powerhouse.

Military Bowl would have been nice for all of the UNT people working in D.C. as well as everybody else in the northeast, but including those who would travel anywhere to see a bowl game, we would literally sell hundreds of tickets to the North Texas faithful. I agree that they are likely to take ECU, or maybe Marshall if Rice wins this weekend. The fact is that until UNT catches back up with everybody who passed us by during the 1-AA purgatory and gets as big a traveling fanbase as the big boys, we don't want a bowl that far away because our attendance numbers would be just plain embarrassing.
