Possible Bowl shuffle oddity

So a fairly decent SJSU team, at 5-6, would have to upset Fresno State in their last game to become bowl eligible. If that were to happen, NIU is pretty likely to get a BCS bowl bid instead of one of the automatic MAC bids, since Fresno would certainly drop in the rankings and are currently only one spot ahead of NIU. This only remotely affects us, but since a shift in which MAC or MWC teams get in can ultimately affect which bowl wants given teams for good attendance and matchups, it could alter which team we play in our bowl game. As we discussed before, there's a teeny possibility that both Fresno and NIU would get BCS spots but since it's not very likely only one will probably get in, even if they're both ranked at or above #16 at the time.

So again, this barely affects us but could make for a couple of interesting changes in which teams face off in which bowls, so if you're looking at shifts in conference bowl selections as determinants of who our opponents might be, the SJSU vs. Fresno outcome might change the matchups in a number of bowls. Just a blip on the radar for now but thought some of you might be interested in keeping an eye on that one.

I can't get past how much I'm enjoying being in a conference with enough bowl tie-ins that we fans are intrigued by the most obscure possibilities.

That may be my favorite part about this bowl game run compared to those under Dickey's.

The unfortunate side effect is an inability to make road trip plans early.

Impossible, unless you think Fresno or NIU rockets up to the NCG in the last 2 weeks to force the issue, or if you think they both remain above the AAC champ and the bowl committee for one of the BCS bowls would rather chose them than another AQ at large. There's a growing chance that Fresno or NIU winning out doesn't get them to top 12 and that UCF leap frogs them to keep them out of a game. I don't think the polls will allow that to happen, but that's the most likely scenario at this time.

PS, Fresno aint losing to the hosers, they might lose to the donks in the MWC championship game.

I wouldn't call it impossible, but like I said it's a very miniscule possibility of both getting into BCS bowls. Either way, one or the other losing, including in their respective championship games, could cause a reasonable shift in the bowl selections, especially the ones that pit AQ teams against non-AQ teams.
