UNT fails to make final three for local star lineman

Ben Baby, one of our high school writers, caught up with Liberty Christian offensive lineman Brad Lundblade today to see where he stands in recruiting.

UNT is one of about a dozen schools to offer the Lundblade, but it looks like the Mean Green is out of the race for the local private school standout.

Lundblade told Ben that he plans to visit San Diego State, Tulane and possibly New Mexico after the season.

He is also holding out hope that a Big 12 school offers.

UNT has had a few private school kids over the years, including James Mitchell from Liberty, but seems like a bad fit for private school guys in general.

Darn. Hoping we could get him, but we should be fine if we pick up Christian Beard from Waco midway. We are only losing one scholarship lineman (Anyiam) so signing three lineman this class would be plenty. We already have Chris Miles from flower mound committed and Avery Fortenberry is supposed to be grayshirting and will be here in the spring.

San Diego State puts a lot of resources into recruiting the DFW and they do a pretty good job of it.

A few thoughts as a Plano East grad ... any Plano kid would feel right at home at a large campus like UNT. Also, not all Plano schools are the same. Plano and Plano West definitely are more white color kids but Plano East is on the old side of town and has a huge number of minorities and lots of different economic situations.

Total BS analysis by Vito. Just because you go to a private HS does mean you are better suited to a private college. The facts are that a lot of private school kids don't make it anywhere because the general lesser competition in HS does not prepare them as well as larger schools and excelling in that environment is not the same as it would be at 4 or 5a Texas teams.

I have no idea of this kids situation, but just because a school in this case NT offered him at one time, does not mean the ship is still there. It could be a case of wanting to be out of the home area, but those schools still on his list are certainly not that imposing.

I completely agree. It's a good thought in theory, but I don't think it true. Brad Horton is actually really popular at UNT and he looks like he fits in. His quitting football had nothing to do with the school being too big for him as a private school boy. He has tweeted about wanting to leave Denton, but college kids say that stuff all the time. Even kids who love it at UNT.
