UTSA Bowl Chances

Recommended Posts

...got better today as Big 12 lightweights TCU and West Virgina lose.

TCU is done for the year. West Virgina is, now 4-7, done as well.

Big 12, pitifully, will not fill all of its bowl slots...allowing for teams like UTSA to hold out hope of getting to a bowl game if they keep winning...which means, they will come out scrapping hard Saturday.

When the season began, who'd have thought the key to the C-USA West title would be beating UTSA? I didn't think they'd be a pushover. But, I also didn't think they'd be angling for a winning season with a possible bowl on the line this late in the season either.

It'll make for a good, hard-hitting game next weekend!

No joke...who would have thought they'd be pushing for a bowl??? Definitely not me.

It's a very salient issue. If these 3-5 win teams keep beating each other out of bowl eligibility, we could field more than 6 CUSA teams in bowls. UNT gets money from EVERY bowl played, won or not, by other CUSA teams. We need to win the last 2 but I'd love the outside chance that 2 or 3 extra teams get into bowls. If UNT is one of, say, 8 CUSA teams in bowls and even half of them win, we could be looking at close to a million bucks, if I'm not mistaken on the way the revenue is shared.

I don't believe that this will happen. UTSA is in their transitional year and is ineligible for a bowl unless there are no other bowl eligible teams and UTSA has won six games. At this point it appears that 74 teams could likely qualify for the 70 bowl spots.

But, put me in the camp that is surprised at how well the Roadrunners have done this year. Even if they end their season at 5-7 that is a tremendous accomplishment for a team just completing its FBS requirements. Congratulations!
