In 2001, an 0-5 Mean Green squad faced off in their sixth game against a stout Middle Tennessee team and won with panache. They then kept winning, something like 24, 26 straight conference games and four conference titles.

It was 26 consecutive conference wins.

Coincidentally, MTSU was the first and last win of The Streak. Oct 13, 2001 to Sept 10, 2005. We lost at Troy on Oct 4, 2005.

I was at both the first and last wins.

Everyone remembers the first one. The last one was at MTSU.

John Denver and I had field passes, and it was a terrible game. We had done NOTHING on offense all game long, and were losing 7-0 late in the fourth. MTSU was on the goal line and was about to score and make it an insurmountable 14 pt lead.

Maurice Holman makes a great read and picks off a pass and takes it back 99 yards. After an MTSU punt, Patrick Cobb scores with about a minute left.

JD and I look and each other and thought "maybe we will be able to keep the streak going for another year?"

We went 12-48 over the next 60 games.

We lost our first conference game in CUSA to Tulane. Better beat UTSA. I know they're a full conference member but still...
