Why does HoD look good in that scenario? Would the Aloha Bowl have a reason to pick a different team from CUSA over North Texas? I get that HoD may want NT, but the Aloha Bowl would first have to want someone else, I'd think.

Question, no info.

The HoD has a higher payout as well as lower travel costs, so the net gain is way higher. And since we split the revenue with the rest of CUSA, we would be saying Aloha to most if not all of the money we would get for the trip (because aloha means goodbye too...get it?). Plus the crowd wouldn't be nearly as much in our favor there. And as to them wanting us vs. wanting someone else...it's basically whoever can travel the best that they will want. Plus the HoD will likely pull some strings to keep us in Texas if we don't go to the Liberty, so you can bet that as long as they want us they will wheel and deal to keep us out of Hawai'i. Some CUSA bigwigs are on the HoD committee so I expect that if they want us, it's going to happen.

how far do you think we will drop during our bye week??

As long as it's less than 5 spots and Marshall doesn't pound Tulsa too badly and move up 15 spots or something, I think we'll be in the same boat as we are currently.

Playing UAB is not going to do ECU any favors. They may drop as well.

I believe that this is the last year that the Liberty Bowl will be CUSA's #1 bowl. The Heart Of Dallas Bowl will become our top bowl in the future and I'd think that they would want to get off to a good start. In my opinion, North Texas could sell twice the number of tickets of any other CUSA member this year. It would make sense to invite North Texas (especially if we've won 8 or 9 games) True, the payout is about $300K less but the expenses no more than that for a home game. It also might generate more season ticket sales and game day sales for the future and would generate much more local publicity. It seems like a situation that would be hard to pass up.

The HOD people didn't make two trips to Apogee for nothing.

And BTW - consider this: If we do win out, play for and win the conference championship and go to the Liberty Bowl there is a very real chance it would be against Georgia. SEC #8 team is who goes and looking at records overall in the SEC Georgia is hovering near that. How great would it be to go whip them in a bowl game?
