Really? Just cannot be happy with a 5 game winning streak, a 7-3 record, undefeated at home and sitting in First Place in November and in control of your own destiny?

This is GMG, of course we can be happy with athletic success and bitch at the same time.

Multitasking!

would the helmet sticker be in the shape of a motorcycle helmet?

Or a dolphin with a helmet on with a dolphin with a helmet on with a dolphin with a helmet on......

(I know the real dolphin had an "M" on its helmet but it should've been my way)

Juat because others do it, doesn't make it right in everyone's mind...

It has nothing to do with being a major football program...it has to do with needless spending for me...

No biggie...I'm in the minority...doesn't change my support for the school...just wish it didnt occur

How much money are we actually talking about here? It takes what, 30 minutes to escort the bus X 2 UNT police officers X $20 per hour = $20? If they weren't escorting the bus would they still be on the clock doing something else? If so, it doesn't cost anything extra. I doubt they come into work just to escort the bus for 30 minutes.

I can tell you as someone being on a bus getting hammered with rocks exactly why police would follow the busses. You might get hammered with rocks. It may not be a problem in Denton but drunks do act the fool at other stadiums all over the country. If something did happen, half this board would be saying it's insane there was no security and the university would probably get sued or bad press at a minimum because they didn't have security in place.

Additionally, how mad would you all be if our team arrived late because of traffic? Or, perhaps the other team arrived late after they offered our team this courtesy when we travel? That would be classless on our part in my opinion. They also get an escort into and out of the airport. I am good with that too.

More over, in this day and age providing security is a good thing. People can complain until something happens. I am personally happy to have police around. Go watch any other university or professional team. We don't need to act Busch League.

Or maybe, just maybe those police officers were there to ensure our guys didn't steal the hotels towels.

This is the dumbest thread ever.

If it is UNT campus police, the only expense is the gas. What else would they be doing? Is there a huge crime wave on campus on game day that I haven't heard about?

It's a function of being a campus cop, and a pretty important one, considering 20k plus people are counting on you to get those players to the game safe and on time.

Also, every UNT Officer is required to work on game day. The only ones who aren't working the game are the ones who are on their regular patrol duties, and the ones who are in between shifts. So, they are there working anyways, might as well put them to use.

High school bands get police escorts to football games.

Once, back in my wilder days, I got a police escort to the Potter County Line; that's where Amarillo is located, for those of you who are West Texas challenged. In a sheriff's department patrol car. Heck, I was just a hitchhiker, but appreciated the attention. Really, it was better than walking. Mac Davis, I understand your opinion about Lubbock in a rear view mirror; the same goes for me and Amarillo. A police escort can be a cherished experience.

Coaches security- Coaches can select their own security team and they pay for it or is part of thier compensation. When I was at A&M, Jackie Sherrill's security was a Pittsburg (as in Pennsylvania) Police Department Sergeant.

UNT police escorted the team all the way to Ruston and back. All police escorts (UNT, State Poilce or City Police) are paid for by the Athletic Department as part of the travel expenses. Those officers are not free.

There was one (1) NT police car with the team in Ruston (at least when the team pulled in) and came into the lot behind the busses. It was either a Ruston or Lousiana highway Patrol Car in front.

Not sure if this is accurate, but someone mentioned to me that it's a CUSA rule to have at least one member of law enforcement traveling with an away team to conference games.
