Realistically speaking, if we win a bowl game this year, and go another mediocre 6-6 next season but win another bowl game, I think he sees a Year 4. He would have 40% of UNT's all-time bowl wins.
But look at next year's schedule:
Home vs. Lamar, South Alabama, Washington State, Navy, South Alabama, Temple, UTSA
Away at Western Michigan, Army, Charlotte, UAB, Rice
#Hit6 should be lower than the floor with that schedule. We should be competing for a spot in the CCG.
SMU knows their strengths and plays to them. Kudos to them. No different in the private sector- you gotta pay for talent, who otherwise wouldn't go to your company.
They paid players sure, but Dykes slowly established a recruiting infrastructure that Lashlee expanded. Decent coaching matters too.
We haven't beaten SMU since 2018- and the games haven't been close. I'd love for us to even have 1/10 of the infrastructure SMU does.
Worse. We were in the conference championship game with 9 wins in year 2 under “Coach Taylor”.
Mean Green Ryan Day still hasn’t met the success level of his predecessor’s last season (a season in which he was fired).
