Women's Basketball vs. A&M (11/11/13)

I'll be the first to admit that I do not follow our women's basketball team as closely as I do other sports at North Texas, but does anyone know what our chances are at taking down A&M at home tonight?

I know A&M comes into this game nationally ranked, but from what I've heard, this is a very talented Mean Green team this year.

Can't wait for the game tonight! I am an Aggie living in Denton who loves UNT! So I am a little torn.

Texas A&M has won its last three games in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, which includes wins in the 2011 NCAA Tournament over Georgia and Baylor, as the Aggies went on to win the National Championship that year. The Aggies are 5-2 all-time in Denton, and 3-1 against the Mean Green in Denton.

Under Coach Gary Blair, the Aggies have won all four contests it has played against North Texas, but all of those matchups have taken place in College Station. In 1988, the last time the Aggies visited North Texas, the Mean Green saddled A&M with a 60-53 loss, as none other than Nelda Roy scored 17 points to lead all scorers for a Mean Green victory.

Her daughter, along with seven others with DFW ties, will look to start the season the right way in front of Dallas-area friends, family and fans on Monday night.

not gonna lie... this isn't a bad showing for the Mean Green... i know that sounds dumb when talking about a 19 point loss... but the competitive gap between top tier teams and everyone else in Women's college basketball is HUGE... so for NT to even be this close... it's a lot to build on

Their tallest girl is 6'7". They were quick, athletic, and there defense was amazing. They caused so many turn overs. MeanGreen women gave it a great effort and got it back within 10 at one point. Was a great crowd with tons of Aggies.

Some notes:

"North Texas (1-1) closed the deficit to 10 points on three separate occasions in the second half, but a 9-0 run put the Aggies up 52-33 with less than 12 minutes left in the game."

"The 12th Man from the Dallas-Fort Worth area showed up in numbers, as the 1,791 fans in attendance were the most for a North Texas women’s basketball home game since 2011."
