Well...... I think the thing now is....

Be a champion, play like a champion.

We are too close to being the best for our offense not to match the standards of our D. THEY ARE GOING TO HAVE TO STEP IT UP MORE.

They cant just continue to be awesome sometimes, then just skate by the other times. GMG!

There were some monster blocks against UTEP, DT's among them.

That aside, I hope the offense is ready for UTSA and Tulsa - lots of missed passes on Saturday and against Rice. Maybe the OC is experimenting and seeing what works as far as long passes go?

I was psyched to see him make that block as well as seeing him drop his shoulder on QB draws and get the first down. But like SSP is saying, he can't be great sometimes. He can't start overthrowing people again. That throw that Darnell Smith went up for (and subsequently got injured trying to catch) scared the crap out of me. Granted, he was scrambling when he threw it.

I think he's giving DT a chance, especially with this game against UTEP where we had the game in hand the whole time. The thing is, DT isn't a deep ball qb. His game is the dink and dunk throws like he did all game long against schools like Idaho, K-State, and Ball State (did have a nice post over the middle to Brelan that game). Those high percentage throws get his confidence up and confidence is very important for Thompson. When he starts playing bad, especially at home, he feels the heat.

No need to open up the downfield passing attack like he's Drew Brees. Then a qb who was able to go 25-28 on the road at #15 K-State only goes 10-24 against UTEP at home or 11-24 at home against FCS Texas Southern.

Keep in mind that he earned a scholarship running the spread in HS. Lots of short, timing based routes. Now you are asking for a quite different skill that he is not as adept at.

However, he has stepped it up this year compared to last.

My hat is off to Thompson for delivering this season. He is tough and is willing the team to win. What a great turnaround from last year...he did it with hard work.

One thing I've noticed about DT is that he seems to have a lot of difficulty in throwing with the wind. This is when he makes some of his worst overthrows. Definitely was the case last year.

IIRC, this was the first home game this year to have much of a wind factor. Don't know about the road games.

Am I the only one that thought he had a bad game on Saturday? Bad throws, mostly too high. The receivers were doing their job but the ball wasn't getting to them.

And, yes, I like that he put up that block. I love seeing QB's do that. I hate when they act like kickers.

Now if we can get him to get back to the accuracy he showed in the early part of the season.

More shifting of the pocket...I like DT a lot more when he's moving laterally and throwing those 8-yard outs to the boundary than I do him with his nervous feet in the pocket.

No, everyone has said that. But we won, so you aren't supposed to criticize him. Defense did great, o-line and backs were running at will, and special teams were outstanding again. And he threw a gutsy block, so that's what we're supposed to talk about.

Yeah, sorry if I was coming across as his whole game was something to be proud of. I definitely think this was not a very good passing game for him, but that block was a great block.

You didn't come across that way. Just letting Travis know why there is very little criticism of Thompson on the board after a 10-24 performance against UTEP. I agree that people shouldn't be focusing on it as good as our team is playing, but it shouldn't be completely ignored either.

He had zero turnovers....that was very important against an underdog team.

I agree. We shouldn't throw against the wall and chuck darts at him, but I feel that he's getting off the hook too easy. Every other aspect of our team is performing at a championship level and I think Thompson needs to step up as our qb and not be the weak link.

That's all though. This conversation is for another thread. This thread is about the courageous block DT layed on a 320+ pounder. Championship level effort for sure.
