So then we beat the Vols in the Liberty bowl, putting the series at 2-0 and they cancel their game with us in 2015 (and for the next three decades), opening up a spot for another home game. Everything always works out in the end.

Born in Tennessee, I grew up a vols fan and they hold a very special place in my heart. I still keep up with them, but my UNT Mean Green are my main focus and I love it.

I really am looking forward to that game in 2015 where I plan to make my first trip to Neyland, while wearing green. I hope we would beat them, but I'd rather us drop the Iowa game that year than the Tennessee game. For selfish reasons :)

I love the song Rocky Top. It would be a shame Tennessee would not get a chance to play it.

Next year the Vols will be heading to Norman to face Oklahoma. Think about it, Boomer Sooner v. Rocky Top, the two most annoying songs in college football, back to back to back.

[shudders]

I mentioned this in Shaft's bowl thread but worth mentioning again. Some of the Texas Tech fans seem to think they may play us in the HOD bowl. I will try to find the link but at this point it's just a rumor...

If I understand things correctly, a Big 12 team gets into the HoD if their selection board deems there's no CUSA team worthy of it. That doesn't exactly seem like its going to be a problem. :)

After two seasons as the TicketCity Bowl, the name of the postseason game at the Cotton Bowl was changed to the Heart of Dallas Bowl. The 2013 game featured Oklahoma State of the Big 12 Conference against Purdue of the Big Ten Conference. The Cowboys posted a 58-14 win over the Boilermakers before a crowd of 48,313. The game raised $100,000 for the Metro Dallas Homeless Alliance, helping to move 225 individuals and families into permanent housing.

The Heart of Dallas Bowl becomes the second bowl game to be owned and operated by ERT in Dallas-Fort Worth. Based in Charlotte, ERT has run the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl since 2003. Brant Ringler, executive director of Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl, and his team will oversee both bowl games.

In July, it was announced that the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl had joined forces with the Heart of Dallas Bowl presented by PlainsCapital Bank to secure a commitment to have a Big Ten Conference school play in the postseason games, on a rotating basis, during a seven-year period (2013-2019 seasons).

In late August, the Big 12 Conference announced that one of its member schools will be playing in either the Heart of Dallas Bowl presented by PlainsCapital Bank or the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl starting with the 2014 season. The Big 12 Conference will supply a selection in five of the six seasons (2014-2019), and will be a primary back-up selection in one of the years.

1) I'm not worried at all about getting completely shafted from all bowls. We're not LA Tech turning down bids in hopes of getting a shinier invite. We'll have at least 8 wins, which in the modern landscape, in a conference with as many tie-ins as CUSA has, will be plenty to get to a bowl game.

2) If we should reach the Liberty Bowl, playing a #8 SEC team doesn't scare me at all. Yes, they've got the best NFL team money can buy in Alabama, but as a whole, the conference is just incredibly notorious for rigging the system in such a way (weak OOC, and strategically scheduling around inter-division power games) to create a facade that mere membership makes a school the greatest thing since sliced bread and sloppy **** jobs. Tennessee? Yes. Bring it. I think we play them tough. Hell, give us Georgia on neutral ground again. We've significantly toughened up since that game.

Bottom line. Let's just keep winning. Everything else will take care of itself. We're not a 5-game winner who back doored a conference championship. We're not in the Sunbelt. We're not related to Karl Benson. SMU has no say in any of this. The rest of the universe doesn't actively hate us as much as some here would like to think.

It's all gonna work out.

If UNT is not in the Liberty Bowl, this is the perfect match-up and bowl! Fry legacy, Big Ten opponent, close for our fans, New Year's Day bowl...what's not to like?
