I really like what UNT has done in the last few years in getting involved with social media. It is fun to watch the youtube highlights, videos of practice, coach Canales, facebook and twitter posts.

Coach Sumlin of the Aggies understands how important social media platform can be and I think it has helped tremendously with recruiting.

Now we just need to get Dan McCarney on twitter himself!

The main area this helps with is in recruiting. Recruits are all over social media.

He may not have a twitter account but he is still very involved in the whole process and most likely is over the shoulder of his position coaches when they're trading direct messages with recruits. I highly doubt we are falling behind because Mac himself doesn't have an account. Didn't we hire an official social media guy from the high school coaching ranks to handle all this before the season began? I think we're fine.

I know we don't have a dedicated Rivals, scout or 247 site but it seems like we're getting more coverage here. It is interesting to note that you can check an assistant coaches following/followers list to see the recruits they are in contact with.

He probably types in all caps

Actually, that could work for him. "GET OFF YOUR DAMN COUCHES AND GET YOUR ASSES IN GEAR MEAN GREEN NATION! IT'S GAME DAY! #BeUnique #BeDifferent"

What coach McCarney says cannot be contained by 140 characters.

True that. I'd love some inspirational Coach Mac speeches on my Twitter feed though. His speeches aren't just motivation for football, they're motivation for life.

The AD has also tapped local social media and branding gurus at Swash Labs to help guide their Facebook, Twitter and YouTube endeavors. I've got some buddies over at Swash including their founder who's a multiple UNT alum.

Can you convince them to get Mac a gifyo account?
