I gave coach a pass on last year, but this is the year he has to produce. There is too much talent and too much experience with this coaching staff for another wasted year. In the event Benford doesn't succeed this year, who do we go after as a replacement? Does Ernie Kuehne care enough about the program to raise the funds to buy out the remaining Benford years?

Would we need to raise the money for a potential buyout? I thought the funds situation was much better off now after the student athletic fee was kicking in. And that could depend if we decide to extend Mac's contract and give him and the whole coaching staff a raise.

Not being familiar with such things I could never understand, in that scenario, why a university didn't simply change the coach's duty. At least he/she could be of some value doing other tasks and at least the individual would not be getting paid to stay at home.

The $$ people clearly think Benford is the man for the job, since all the $ suddenly came in when he was hired. I'm wondering what it'll take for them to think otherwise. Or will they continue to stand behind Benford and blame players if things stay on the wrong track?

The money people can think all they want but at what point do you start to look at the bottom line and have a short leash on him?

Year 4. We'd rather sink the ship completely (see Dodge era) than admit a mistake.

I just hope he doesn't let personal relationships blind him to the product on the floor and the regression in the program.

There is no doubt this is what happened at the end of last year. Want proof? Go back and listen to the podcast where the AD with the brand new 10 year (??) contract extension heavily insinuated that last year was the players' fault, not the coach that he hired. Blaming the players for his own mistake makes me think that he will continue not to take ownership of this mistake and pray that Benford is competitive in year 3 so he doesn't have to admit it in year 4.

Benford should have been gone the day after the blowout loss in the first round in Hot Springs. He was a disaster of epic proportions that set the program back years. Instead, we allow him back to further damage the program because we have a person in charge that simply can't admit a mistake.

It will be interesting to see what happens after this brewing storm of a season staring us right in the face.

Or doesn't happen.

Should have been gone after the UAH game played at a neutral site in front of about 20 people. The red flags of all red flags.
