I agree. Two grown men should be able to do whatever the hell they want on their own time. Their AD Chun is really pulling a stunt if all this ruckus was for a little pot.

Right, because violating drug laws is super cool and we should just overlook grown ass men who are supposed to set an example for players smoking a little weed, right?

Good for FAU. Glad they didn't hesitate one bit. I also think there is more to the story.

Didn't realize their AD didn't hire Pelini. Even though I could see how this would give him a buyout-free way to get rid of Pelini, this sounds pretty spectacular. Having the cops escort Pelini and the dc from their offices? Wow. That's pretty dysfunctional.

Not for nothing, their game against Tulane on Saturday is also their Homecoming. Most high-profile time of the season to pull a move like this one.

Think about the bigger picture -- Do you think FAU, as an educational institution, wants people who are known to have used drugs around students ? Do you really think parents will want their kids to go to a school where drug use, even if it "just" pot, is deemed OK?

It is likely that the AD and the president of university were not in favor of keeping someone around that uses illegal drugs that has a ton of visibility within the university.

But the issue was not public... YET

Sounds like there is a whole lot more to the story.. will call my buddies down there and see if I can get some better dirt over the weekend

It's not so much the firing, I get that. I'm speaking more to the massive hullaballoo that was raised about it. I was sitting here thinking ole Pelini had killed 5 hookers or something.

This is all understandable and I agree.

But this is also SO EASILY swept under the rug and kept secret at so many other places... if the AD wants to keep the coach around.

I gotta think someone has pictures of them using or something... OTHERWISE, the only real explanation here is that the AD wanted Pelini gone and this was his easiest way to do it without paying the buyout clause.

No-brainer.

Has anyone ever seen Pelini and Craig James together before?

Mario Cristobol to Fau

Would be a perfect fit if they offered him the HC gig

That wouldn't surprise me at all. I still think FIU made the worst mistake they could make getting rid of Cristobal, He made that program...then suffers a bad year and gets fired. Now, FIU is on the wrong end of the stick. FAU would be very wise to hire Mario Cristobal.

I, too, think this has a lot to do with Pelini being cross-ways with the AD. Let's face it--the Pelini's are trash. Bo has embarrassed one of the best fanbases in any sport in Nebraska Football so many times that he is most likely finished up there after this season. Carl Pelini is no different.

How does anyone not agree with this statement? Hit the nail on the head.

Because 90 missed the point entirely. Nobody is arguing with the decision to fire, but rather with the decision to make it public at all. Seems like something this minor could be easily swept under the rug for a coach that performs but this move makes it seem as if Chun has an axe to grind with Pelini and this was his free shot.

Agree. Spoke to a fellow Berkner Ram grad whose family hailed from Nebraska yesterday. He's a lifelong Husker and had no positive things to say about Pelini. Word up there is Pelini is less than cordial to Osborne. Much friction there. Pretty stupid guy to not get along with if you are the Nebraska coach.

Osborne is retiring as the AD for Nebraska. Shawn Eichorst is replacing Osborne as AD. Perhaps his biggest and most important hire in his early tenure is a new FB coach.

Well hell yes. I mean it's South Florida. I just can't believe that its against the law to smoke pot there. This would never happen in a college town in Texas, especially Austin.

Mack would agree.
