The people at Southern Miss were the most friendly opponents I have EVER visited, and it isn't even close.

1) We were invited at least 5 times to sit down and join a Southern Miss tailgate while walking from our car to the stadium. I usually don't arrive at our games in time to tailgate, but I would hope we are half this nice to our visiting fans.

2) We did not have tickets. As we walked around the stadium to find the ticket office, a Southern Miss fan asked it we were looking for the ticket office and needed tickets. When we said "Yes", he gave us two $35 tickets. People continued to come up to us, shake our hands, and offer us something to eat. Wow.

3) Almost every person we passed wearing black and gold said "Welcome to Hattiesburg." Even during the game, the people around us were praising our team and thanking us for coming.

5) After the game, Southern Miss fans again thanked us for coming, told us to be safe going home, and were hopeful we would come back in two years. I certainly learned first hand what Southern Hospitality is really like.

6) We should never complain about our parking. There is none around the stadium in Hattiesburg. We parked on the median of the highway because everyone else did. It was a litle like going to Austin. Anything around the stadium was roped off and there wasn't anyone that worked there that could tell you where you could park.

7) I-20 is the longest, straightest road in America.

I agree. Very hospitable. It was a pleasure. Impressed by their show of support for such a struggling team. We could learn some things from them.

This was a good story about how they treated our fans that made the trip to MS.

I hope we show the same to visitors as well.

However, compare their support to ours isn't quite the same thing.

Since 1963 they have had 9 losing seasons

We've had 8 straight losing seasons since 2004.

Since 1960, we've also had 19 other Div1A losing seasons (27 total) and

we spent a 13 yr stint in 1AA purgatory.

This is why we are such a group of whiplash fans. We have been hoping and pulling

for success for so long and when we finally think we've turned the corner, we get

smacked in the head. Maybe (this time) we are finally on the right track.

I have seen this from our fans and would love to know this is what people experience when coming to Apogee.
