North Texas got just a little taste of what its like to get on a roll the last two weeks, when the Mean Green put together back-to-back wins for the first time since 2004.

That little bit of success made UNTs players hungrier for more.

The Mean Green went out and got more winning one more game and taking one more step toward its first bowl berth in nine years with a 55-14 thrashing of Southern Mississippi at M.M. Roberts Stadium on Saturday night.

The win extended UNTs winning streak to three games, its longest run since winning seven straight heading into the 2004 New Orleans Bowl, the Mean Greens last postseason appearance.

When you win your second one in a row, you get hungry, UNT offensive lineman Mason YBarbo said. You want to keep it going. We can see the confidence building.

That certainly was the case in a win over Southern Miss that ranked among the Mean Greens most complete performances in years.

UNT rolled up 529 yards of offense, forced five turnovers and was never threatened by the Golden Eagles, despite turning the ball over four times.
