North Texas handed Southern Miss another loss for the Golden Eagles’ homecoming game, breezing past the Eagles to the tune of 55-14.

The Golden Eagles (0-7, 0-3 Conference USA) tallied their 19th straight loss since 2012, while the Mean Green improved to 5-3 and 3-1 in Conference USA play.

Southern Miss missed a golden opportunity to score first after Ed Wilkins’ interception for the Eagles put them on North Texas’ 37-yard line. The Golden Eagles’ drive, however, fizzled out, and Corey Acosta missed a 35-yard field goal attempt.

Instead, North Texas struck first on a 46-yard pass from Derek Thompson to receiver Breland Chancellor with 8:15 remaining in the first quarter. The Mean Green would score once more in the quarter on a Reggie Pegram 2-yard touchdown run to put North Texas up 13-0 at the half (the extra point kick on the Mean Green’s second touchdown failed).
